Struggling to get my head around the logic behind this.
Labour’s “we have to do it, or racism will get worse” argument is striking. Any other public policy failures British ethnic minorities should be on the hook for? Can we be blamed en bloc for Rachel Reeves’ budget next week too? www.ft.com/content/37b0...
Defence of Labour asylum policy reveals backsliding on racism
Home secretary’s framing of failures is partly low politics, but also a result of ministers’ poor approach to race relations

The basic problem with the temporary refugee status policy - especially one lasting up to 20 years - is it leads to very few removals (based on Denmark's experience) but does significantly worsen integration.

Teachers and school leaders are overworked, under supported and increasingly exposed to stress, anxiety and burnout. The system is in crisis, and teacher wellbeing must be treated as a workforce priority.

The government has recommended a 6.5% pay increase for teachers split across three years.

Daniel Kebede, general secretary of the NEU teaching union, said the pay award recommendation amounted to a “real-terms pay cut” for teachers

The NEU has submitted its pay claim to the STRB, calling for urgent, fully funded action to reverse the real terms cuts to teacher pay since 2010. We want a fair national pay structure, no PRP and real steps to tackle excessive workload. 1/4

This week the NEU joined over 100 organisations urging the government to scrap the cruel two child benefit limit, which pushes 109 children into poverty every day. Ending it would transform children’s opportunities and the UK’s future. Read the full letter here. cpag.org.uk/news/letter-...
Letter warning government against 'half-measures' on two-child limit
As this government recognises, every child deserves the best start in life. But a record 4.5 million children live in poverty. Their life chances are being held back and their potential wasted. They d...

Schools are paying agencies nearly double what teachers receive, leaving classrooms without the support pupils need.

Agencies are profiting while schools struggle to manage overstretched budget. #StopTheAgencyRipOff

@bphillipsonmp.bsky.social, the new Ofsted system is a missed opportunity to prioritise the wellbeing and mental health of teachers and school leaders.

We need a new system that is supportive, effective and fair.
