#10Days10Reasons #SupportiveHousingSavesLives

Tens of thousands of New Yorkers have a safe, stable place to call home because of permanent #supportivehousing — including critical units funded by the CoC.

It's the final hour. There is 1 day left to protect it, #SavetheCoC, and save lives.

Congratulations to @newdestinyhousing.org for breaking ground on their new development, McLean Place, in the Bronx!

This site will have 72 units of supportive housing, 43 of which will be for survivors of domestic violence.
CSH provided acquisition and predevelopment funding for this project.

Running 16 miles in the rain is nothing compared to what survivors of domestic violence face. @newdestinyhousing.org is the only organization specifically providing affordable housing to survivors of DV and their families in NYC. Please help me support their work: donations.nyrr.org/donations/ne...

Emergency Housing Vouchers gave 70k households, incl. 1000s of #DomesticViolence survivors, the chance to rebuild their lives.

If Congress fails to include funding for the program in the budget, families like Monique's could be forced back into #homelessness, nationwide.

🗣️ HANDS OFF #HOUSING! New Yorkers are at risk of losing the housing & services that keep them stable & alive.

We are calling on Congress to reject cuts & fully fund:
✅ CoC: $4.922B
✅ HOPWA: $750M
✅ Rental Assistance & Public Housing

Our tenant, Yahaira, is right: With inc. funding for the NYS Supportive Housing Program, it's critical that the gov't agencies distributing these funds “do so in a manner that ensures that the buildings that need the most get what they need”

Commentary: Extra funding for supportive housing will help survivors of domestic abuse
But the funding will only make a difference if it's targeted to where it's needed most.

Daniris, member of our SVP, in @thehill.com on the urgent need to fund the Emergency Housing Voucher Program: "Loss of the program would push countless survivors back to their abusers, force 10s of 1000s of ppl into homelessness & hurt landlords across every state"

Ending emergency housing aid cuts a lifeline for domestic violence survivors
Losing the program would push countless survivors back to their abusers, force tens of thousands of people into homelessness and hurt landlords across every state financially.

Congratulations @newdestinyhousing.org on re-opening of Lily House today! The former shelter run by Safe Horizons is now home to 30 survivors of domestic violence and their families.

#supportivehousing #supportivehousingsaveslives #endhomelessness
We also applaud the state’s decision to increase funding for #ESSHI & the Homeless Housing & Assistance Program, so we can continue building much needed supportive housing for survivors; as well as the creation of the #HAVP, which will help thousands of survivors find safe & affordable homes. (7/7)
As we work w/ the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) to disburse these additional NYSSHP funds quickly, New Destiny will continue to fight for the full $32M for NYSSHP in next year’s budget – for many of the survivors we serve, the difference is life or death. (6/7)
TY grateful to Sen. Cleare & AM Hevesi for your longtime advocacy on behalf of NYSSHP & #DomesticViolence survivors.

Thanks to leaders like them, NY has recognized that supportive housing is the best, most cost-effective way to provide survivors w/ the tools they need to stay alive & heal. (5/7)
The increase will enable nfps, like us, to add desperately needed case management services, mental health support, & building security, which will both improve & save survivors’ lives, while helping ensure the financial stability of this vital affordable housing stock for generations to come. (4/7)
This investment in NYSSHP will help 1000s of families across the state, including #DomesticViolence survivors, stay in their homes & access the essential services they deserve. (3/7)
Though it is not the full $32M that we called for, the inclusion of $17M for #NYSSHP – the first significant funding increase in almost 40 yrs – means that our state is committed to addressing the dangerously low contract rates of the program. (2/7)
#ICYMI: After yrs of tireless advocacy addt'l funding was included for the NYS Supportive Housing Program in the FY 2026 state budget. TY @governor.ny.gov , @speakercarlheastie.bsky.social, & @leaderasc.bsky.social for listening to our tenants & staff on the urgent need to invest in #NYSSHP 🧵⬇️
Ahead of Mayor Adam's Exec. Budget release, we are thrilled to hear that he has plans to produce "nearly 6,000 additional congregate apartments with on-site health & social services." We look forward to learning more. www.cityandstateny.com/policy/2025/... via @cityandstateny.bsky.social
Eric Adams to prioritize supportive housing in upcoming NYC budget
The mayor will commit to building thousands of congregate units where tenants can access services including mental health care.
