⚡Board diversity that stops at optics is diversity in name only.

New research by Shareen Holmer-Nasim explores what true board diversity means.

This research was conducted under Royal Holloway, University of London. Contact the author: [email protected]
A visually structured infographic examining board diversity. The top section critiques the mainstream focus on gender and race in diversity efforts, particularly how it often excludes minority women's perspectives. The middle section introduces a research study that interviewed professional Muslim women and business leaders in London. The bottom section argues that real diversity is about diverse thinking rather than just representation. A three-section infographic exploring nuanced perspectives on board diversity. The top section challenges the assumption that board positions are universally desirable, especially among Muslim women, who prioritize purpose over hierarchy. The middle section acknowledges discrimination in leadership but also emphasizes the role of individual agency in career advancement. The bottom section calls for a deeper, more inclusive understanding of diversity beyond simplistic gender and racial metrics.
