In June, with help from Food & Solidarity, we passed a motion at Newcastle Full Council to end the poverty-making two child benefit cap.

Today the government finally listened.

Let this be the start of a reversal of toxic politics in this country.

Speaking as a Clinical Psychologist, the mind can be pretty powerful Rachel!

I’ve seen a fair few Labour politicians use their minds to inflate nothing but their own egos.

Meanwhile the Green Party poll ratings keep rising…

Watch as Rachel Reeves brands Greens leader Zack Polanski a 'keen hypnotherapist'

🗣️ 'The only things getting bigger under his approach would be the deficit and the rise of inflation'

Newcastle’s Council Leader is right to admit Labour’s budget doesn’t benefit our city enough.

Reeves missed a chance to be bold: to build a fairer tax system, reverse cuts to councils, and put people and planet first.

Newcastle can vote Green in May to send a clear signal.

Good to see @greenparty.org.uk’s Sarah Peters make her first appearance on #BBCPoliticsNorth since being elected as South Jesmond’s first Green councillor.

Rachel Reeves knocked on doors in Jesmond as part of Labour’s failed election campaign. I hope she’s listening 👀

"About 35% of children in Newcastle are growing up in poverty, which is absolutely disgraceful"

South Jesmond Councillor Sarah Peters appeared on #BBCPoliticsNorth on Sunday to discuss the upcoming budget and what the Chancellor should do to alleviate poverty in Newcastle.

White Ribbon Day remains necessary in a society where sexism and misogyny harms directly and creates the conditions for violence against women and girls.

Thank you to Cllr Maines and Newcastle City Council for raising the White Ribbon at the Civic Centre today.

Welcoming Ouseburn Councillor Alistair Chisholm to Newcastle Green Party! 💚

“Residents tell me they feel let down by Labour — and I can’t tell them they’re wrong.

And then there were four!

Exciting news 💚

A big welcome to new @nclgreenparty.bsky.social councillor, Alistair Chisholm.

As Alistair says, so many people feel let down by Labour. With Alistair joining the Greens, it makes us stronger as a local party to work together for Newcastle.

The climate crisis is the product of an economic system which prioritises profit over people and planet.

Social, racial and economic justice are all integral parts of environmental justice - you cannot have any single one without all of the other three.

We're in Newcastle with PMUK's Ian Gregg - former chairman of Greggs.
Speaking in a personal capacity, he said: "We hope the Chancellor uses this Budget to raise taxes on the wealthiest people first - who can most afford it - instead of ordinary people who can’t."

As Clinical Psychologists we have to (thankfully) take part in regular supervision - a confidential space to learn, think & reflect with another psychologist. Good supervision both nourishes and challenges.

Surely we’d have a better politics if politicians had a space like that?

Good to join St Peter’s Basin residents yesterday for training on using the new emergency throw lines along the Tyne.

Big thanks to Tommy from Tyne & Wear Fire & Rescue for showing us the ropes (literally!). These new lines replace the old life rings, and they work better in real emergencies.

If this is true - this should have happened a long time ago.

The Green Party alongside campaigners have been calling for this - and it's good to see maybe they've finally listened.

Will reserve relief for all children being lifted out of poverty until we know it's happening.
NEW: Rachel Reeves signals she intends to remove the two-child cap *in full*

"I don't think a child should be penalised because they're in a bigger family through no fault of their own," she tells BBC.

#RemembranceSunday has personal meaning to us all.

It is an honour as a Councillor to join service men and women at the remembrance parade at Old Eldon Square.

I think of family, conflicts around the world and the service that so many have given. Together for peace and justice.

I was proud to join all councillors cross-party on Wednesday supporting the motion to strengthen Newcastle City Council’s commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant.

#RemembranceSunday is a day when we hold up a mirror to ourselves as a society. To remember. For solidarity. For peace.

As the sun rises over Byker, we’re looking forward to tonight’s winter lights “switch on” over at Hadrian Square and Shields Road. The second year running.

Thanks to everyone at Newcastle City Council & Lizzie West, creative director, for making this happen! Get along for 5.30 ❄️

Antisocial firework use has been harming our communities across Newcastle.

Yesterday, @nclgreenparty.bsky.social successfully brought a motion to council for stronger local action and national legislation, in line with Green policy. Read more here 👇

If Reform UK were listening, they’d have known how austerity and attempts to cut back on the state only leads to more costs and expense.

Though with more and more austerity architect Conservatives swelling their ranks, maybe that was the plan 🤷‍♂️

18 months ago when I rocked up for my debut as a @greenparty.org.uk councillor on #BBCPoliticsNorth, I’d never have thought that by now we’d have @zackpolanski.bsky.social being asked by @bbcrichardmoss.bsky.social about Greens possibly running Newcastle Council in May…. but that just happened! 👀
