@albomp.bsky.social this is the human cost of your neglect. This is the result of your failure to raise the rate of welfare payments.

@chrisminnsmp.bsky.social RPA lost so many psychiatrists when you refused pay rises. We needed them, and your stubbornness cost us. This blood is on your hands too.

I live within spitting distance of where Albo grew up. I can’t understand how someone who knows the horror of poverty could abandon those who need support the most. I’m baffled by the cruelty. He rose up with stories about being working class, growing up in social housing. How dare he betray that.

Why must people suffer like this? Don’t they deserve to get the support they need? Adequate income support. Access to mental health services and individualised care. What is available clearly isn’t enough. How can we have billionaires in this country while people suffer in silence alone?

I’ve spent the evening trying to process the situation. I don’t understand how so many people can be so alone in this world that nobody would notice them missing for such a long time. Her story is not unique. What has gone wrong for so many people to die like this? Don’t we all deserve more dignity?

The hallway has smelled pretty bad for the last few days, maybe a week, but I live amongst people who deal with mental illness, substance abuse disorders, housing instability, and poverty. Bad smells are common enough that I didn’t think much of it, just held my breath until I reached my apartment.

Systemic poverty is a deliberate political and moral choice.

I came home today to a lobby full of cops and was pulled into a meeting room for questioning. My next door neighbour’s body had been found in her apartment and they were trying to build a timeline of her movements leading up to her death.

Instead of the daily stock market - we could have an indicator for the number of homeless people?
What if we defined the economy as the way we take care of one another? Since that's what it ultimately is/ What wood economic indicators then look like

Concerns protest could ‘impede Sydney drivers’ solved by getting basically the whole city at the protest

That got an out loud “what?!” from me

Astonishing indeed

I just meant that I’m not comfortable agreeing or disagreeing with you, not that you shouldn’t have made the call. I’m not Jewish or Palestinian, just the ancestor of colonisers, so for me I feel that it’s enough to say that this is absolutely fucked and needs to stop immediately 🍉

I’m not comfortable calling one atrocity better or worse than another, but I absolutely agree with your first point. As far as I’m concerned, the entire west is already on the wrong side. This situation has shaken my understanding of western culture and values, and we haven’t come out looking good.

I took some time off social media to take care of my brain meats.

It’s so lovely to jump back on here today and see my fellow Sydneysiders out there marching for justice, for empathy. I’m sorry I wasn’t able to join you, but I am cheering you all on really loudly from home 🍉

I suppose they have more money and influence in his mind than the tens of thousands of people marching.

I hope today shifts his position on it.

Yet another part of his base is screaming at him for action. It’s only because the coalition would be worse that he gets away with it.

This will have global impact. The US has lead the way in research for a long time. It’ll shift, but we’ll lose momentum in the meantime.

It still shocks me that he’s gone from supporting Palestine in the 90s to this

The Guardian is posting about it fairly regularly on their daily live updates feed.

They’re not perfect but they’re one of the only bigger outlets covering Gaza…eh, *relatively* fairly.

Zionist influence runs deep here. Thankful for the work that @jewishcouncilau.bsky.social does to combat this!

They what? That’s asking for a crowd crush.

3/3 “…”you”…[are] a leak in the code.”

I don’t think this is victimhood, but a zooming out of perspective where we still act, but we focus a little more on the interactions (inter-actions) between and beyond our actions.

2/3 Control, power, and responsibility are inextricable, and sometimes the responsibility to change everything feels enormous. That responsibility is painfully exhausting. The antidote is to see the collective and dispersed nature of change.
nickipedia.bsky.social
1/3 I don’t see it as a suggestion that individual actions towards change shouldn’t be taken, but an understanding that those actions cannot be separated from the vast whole.
nickipedia.bsky.social
What makes you read it as victimhood?

I see an exploration of the dissolution of the boundaries between self and not-self, the idea that our sense of ‘I’ isn’t separate from what’s around us but something performative (in the Butlerian sense) that both alters and is altered by in a perpetual dance.
