America, protect John Darnielle. He's a national treasure.

Welcome to midlife.
Me:"Turn that music the hell up!"
Folks, it was The Carpenters.
But for real. Rainy days and Mondays really do get me down.

Accomplishments of the weekend: cut a Christmas tree from the local National Forest, decorated the Christmas tree, drafted an article for a regional literary magazine, and started coordinating a speaker series for next year. My heart is full.

I saw the first AI art I've ever seen out in the wild this week and holy moly is it obvious and the kid's claw hands are kinda scary.

Unimaginably old and cool.
Adult Mammoths had one natural enemy–Neanderthals. This Neanderthal scraper in our collection was used for preparing large mammoth hides. The Mousterian style of manufacture reveals it to be 120,000-200,000 years old.

Welcome to the day after Thanksgiving. It is a lot like Thanksgiving, but this time you're eating your favorite foods microwaved and out of a bowl.

A section of petrified wood from the late Triassic, about 225 million years ago. This fallen tree was buried in wet mud and volcanic ash. Silica minerals like clear quartz, purple amethyst, and yellow citrine gradually replaced the organic parts. Petrified Forest National Park, Arizona, 06 Mar 2010.

I held off on building a new computer for years because of the crypto run on video cards. As it ends up, I built after that spike and before ram prices took off.

I fear that a grocery store playing I'll Be Home for Christmas on underpowered speakers with an echo is more dystopian than originally intended.

Peaches, pecans and pines - three of Georgia's big agricultural crops. Pecan trees line a dirt road in Crawford County. A peach orchard is on the left, a pine forest on the right.

The Sandhill Crane numbers were higher at the surrounding farms near the WI River this weekend. My guess is we are near peak. I saw at least 3000 on Saturday resulting in very memorable crane joy! I arrived there late, abt 9:30am, and the birds were just taking off for the day. #birds #Sandhills

Me: "What ultralight backpack should I buy?"

The Internet: "The only acceptable option is a custom 'KS-Yamatomichi-9000,' handmade by a hermit who sews ten a year. The backorder is two decades, and he only accepts payment in golden eagle feathers."
