Sometimes this is the only face I want to look at. And it’s pretty obvious why.
I’m not sure there’s ever been a time when we’ve needed stories (made by humans!) more. I’ve found some amazing books, films, TV shows – and music! – that have helped me work through life, love, and the universe. I’ll be posting more in the next few days.

Everything is bad, but books are good. Get a book. Read the book. Cherish the book. Finish the book. Tell your friends about the book, and leave a review of the book. Hold the book close. Listen to what it tells you. Do as it commands. Place it on the dread altar and let it guide your every choice.

The news that Meanjin is doomed and the Hazel Rowley Fellowship is in its last year just adds to the many pressures and fears surrounding Australian writing and our future. A thread.🧵

Add this to the death of Meanjin, and it's hard to feel optimistic about the future of Australian books and writing.
Sad to hear that this is the final year of the Hazel Rowley Fellowship, but what a magnificent legacy it has been to a great Australian biographer hazelrowley.com

again, this article is careful to say that trump was never accused of anything in regard to epstein...but fails to note that he was *held liable for sexual assault* or that he *bragged about assaulting women.* which seems relevant! why is this not mentioned in any of these articles?!
Her account sure makes it sound like Epstein was procuring underage girls for Trump. Gifted.

“…[Trump arrived at Epstein’s office] wearing a business suit, and started to hover over her, she said she told the authorities. [she] said she recalled feeling scared as…Trump stared at her bare legs.”

You know when you're in the shower and you come up with the perfect final sentence, so you leap out, dripping wet, but your phone is on 2% and the room is all steamed up, so you fumble around, drop it twice, then go to record this stunning piece of poetry...

Paramount gave $16 million for Trump’s future presidential library and attorneys fees. Paramount also needs approval for its billion-dollar merger.

This could be bribery in plain sight.

I cannot emphasize enough how true & real this is.

In almost anywhere on the political spectrum you ID with or major issue, there’s probably a bot/troll operation to encourage your rage and vitriol.

And how/where that rage gets directed, esp understandable rage, is what they are out to influence.
People on this app get really angry every time I point out that social media manipulation is a real phenomenon that we are all stewing in and that’s having real world consequences and I’m sure part of that is engagement farmers who do that manipulation not liking people talking about it

Are you a one-desk or two-desk writer? I could honestly go a third some days, if there were room in my office.

Sometimes you just need to spread, amiright?

9/ But there is no comparison anywhere on the left with MAGA's regular legitimization of violence in our politics. There is a straight line from Jan 6 to the pardons to the assault on Sen. Padilla to Minnesota.

A democracy cannot function when one faction embraces violence.

4/ And we cannot discount the impact of MAGA's fetishization of guns. MAGA celebrates the tools of mass shooters and assassins - assault rifles, machine guns, silencers and high capacity magazines. MAGA doesn't treat firearms with respect - it celebrates their killing power.
