should have hired this "Aidan Sizzle" instead
The kid doesn't seem flagrantly biased, but it's image over substance to name a 7-months freelancer as CBS News' flagship war correspondent. (Doesn't seem he even speaks Ukrainian.) In the old days he'd be starting in the mail room. Now a Yale diploma, nice face, and Bari's favor is all you need. 2/

read the New Yorker piece on Bari Weiss. each person who described her as charismatic had me going, really? or are you a chump? and the NYT opinion section, as always, doesn't miss an opportunity to seem vile. the issue wasn't her trash politics, you see, it was that she wasn't nice to us

Genuinely the only thing keeping me going—but it really is keeping me going—is how good it is to see people link arms and push for this to end.

I cannot stop thinking about how much love people can have for their neighbors, and how much work and money is poured into breaking that love apart.

we should be more explicit: making immigration a problem is a project shared by America’s establishment political parties. both are invested in borders, in the state’s exclusive right to violence, in the cleaving of families. ICE can exist because Dems oppose it toothlessly or truly believe in it

just remembered that Ni No Kuni 2, which I loved, starts with a (the?) president getting itsekaid after witnessing a bombing

so insulting, man. "the intersection of gaming, TV, movies, and pop culture" -- what is that intersection, in the wake of you gutting your videogame section? it's an imaginary place where you underpay one person to do the work of many

playing Code Vein ahead of the sequel -- very good example of the traditional 5, 6, 7/10 being more interesting than what is often treated as a 9 or 10. overflowing with ideas, many hits and many misses; confidently earnest and deeply crude. constant whiplash

being normal about anything is a waste of time. this, to me, is of a piece with the 7/10 game conversation. nothing is normal, every seven is a three or a 10. just go wild with it
what is it like to play games and be normal about them? probably boring?

good anti-heresy policy!

but/and:

1. allowing senior managers to "experiment" with it is very funny (managers gonna manage)
2. the "inquisitive" in "We are allowing those few senior managers to continue to be inquisitive about the technology" is VERY funny in context

not entirely related, but: the cool thing about imposter syndrome is that, no matter how much you doubt yourself in every other way, you can at least be good at that
really getting hit by the feeling of now being in career purgatory for both writing and bartending

I'm old enough to remember when Twitter clowned on @simonparkin.bsky.social's Untitled Goose Game review, whose lede remains one of my North Stars of crit. the response was elucidating: game critics are, not uniquely but distinctly, at odds with our readers

because QUEENS is COOL and none of you would leave BROOKLYN to FIND OUT
In 2023, Astoria became notable for having a democratic socialist at every level of elected government. How did this happen? newyorkermag.visitlink.me/wXL8-C
