"Shared experience is the foundation of a successful polity, and it is not a stretch to think that simply educating children in integrated schools would begin to close the divides that have paralyzed our politics."

SB 79 solves this.

Ladies and gentlemen, we did it. SB 79 has been signed.

Unless she intends for this tax break to apply to anyone in the Palisades regardless of whether their house burned down, there can’t be more than a handful of lots that ULA would apply to in the first place.

I only see one vacant lot on the market that’s listed for more than $5 million.

Yeah I’ve always thought that Talented Venice High Student X is going to be more competitive than equally Talented Harvard Westlake Student Y. Let alone the tuition money her parents saved.

Say what you will about the rise of the far right in recent US/European history and whether one is worse or not, the US is indisputably better positioned to fight and beat ours back because we're kinda the only ones left with a liberal/left-leaning party that isn't utterly moribund at this point.

He’s a Russian nationalist and war criminal who’s constantly dooming about Putin, Russian military elites, and the war in Ukraine.

Terrorist Girkin wrote a letter from a Russian prison, commenting on the recent meeting between Zelensky and Trump. He believes Trump attempted to humiliate Zelensky but ended up humiliated himself. Girkin noted that Zelensky's support in the US and Europe is strong enough to counter Trump.

Idk if you follow Ukraine stuff but he sounds exactly like Strelkov.

Why is this person getting ratioed? G&T programs for kindergartners are self-evidently absurd.
darjeelingltd.bsky.social
But it’s not. We’re not talking about AP calculus here. We’re talking about kindergarten. Are we teaching kids to not eat their boogers using better vocabulary in the G&T class?

There’s an interesting take downthread - I think old line Dems in blue cities also want the economic growth that comes from attracting educated transplants while not giving them any political power.

Unlike in red states though, the old line Dem electeds in blue cities are dying out.
kantverstehen.bsky.social
Southern states think they can get the economic growth while locking out educated transplants from having any political power or representation. At this point I don’t even want to travel thru these places, let alone consider migration

Feels like desperation from a dying media format.

“Does it make sense to build housing in residential neighborhoods?” is a question that answers itself.

I left a message asking Governor Newsom to sign SB 79 and so can you.

A bunch of toxic LA NIMBYs are whining about SB 79, the amazing housing bill the CA legislature passed recently.

It's on the governor's desk, and reportedly he's getting cold feet. Hey @gavinnewsom.bsky.social, please have some spine on the most important issue in your state. Just sign it.

It’s totally fine to be an anti-MAGA Republican but the people you need to persuade are not Democrats.

Ezra Klein seems like the kinda guy who’d blame Democrats for Trump because they voted for Obama instead of Romney.
sharonk.bsky.social
Klein vs TNC is such a fascinating example of how Ezra views the world:
Of course, he wasn’t debating to find the truth. He was doing politics. He was trying to persuade people. And I’ve watched on our side, not opportunistic engagement but a lot of, I would say, counterproductive disengagement.
But would you like to see one of us put up a sign outside of, say, some white evangelical church in Alabama: Debate me on abortion? And then use that content to say: Such and such “smashes” church parishioner? Or: Such and such “owns” church parishioner?
Would you like to see a version of that?
I would like to see people on our side, yes, go to evangelical churches. Go to places that feel unfriendly, have conversations.

“U.S. Christian nationalists call Kirk a ‘martyr’” - A1 headline from a few weeks ago. How did one paper avoid the psychosis affecting every other non-financial national media outlet?
nkburns3.bsky.social
The Los Angeles Times is the newspaper everyone wishes the New York Times would be.
Front cover of the LA Times. Headlines are “Echoes of Red Scare in Trump memo” and “ICE keeps its detainees on the move” with an infographic illustrating 308,000 detainee transfers all over the continental US.
