I have experienced three different university library systems in the past three years. All of them have switched to this awful Ex Libris web catalog. Search feels dysfunctional, subject-based tools are minimal, too many filters.

recent reading has helped me pull together some of my new favorite quotes. here's one from Neville Brody in *Designers on Mac* (1992), about learning to use the Mac:

Neville Brody says: "There's a point when it clicks, when you see you're actually in control; the machine's not controlling you anymore. It's strange, I can even remember the moment it happened; I suddenly thought to myself: "I'm in control of this." Then I'd find myself working on it at 3 o'clock in the morning, not realizing the time had passed."
