Politics, running, running politics from an ill-informed perspective. Keep my informed opinions out of this. I enjoy neo-pronouns, they/them and she/her.
I had no idea that Little A's came into existence because children weren't allowed to participate in athletics! No wonder they were resistant to merging with the grown ups

Hanson is calling for tougher hate speech laws, while she is currently in court trying to appeal against her loss in a hate speech legal case. A fact not mentioned by a single outlet covering this story.
Hanson at the Bondi memorial calling for students to be "rounded up" and cuts to immigration. The crowd muttering in agreement, and giving her a huge round of applause once she finishes.

What a friendly thing to say. Very generous to of you to think of us during our most recent mass shooting and share news of your better one. Thanks for this friendly message, friend. I don’t think any of us were aware there could be such laws or indeed a better way of living. Good lookin’ out
Just want to share with my American friends how the Australians respond to a shooting tragedy. Action, rather than thoughts and prayers.

The kids' social media ban is turning out to be my favourite type of law: one that sets a norm that's probably good but isn't enforceable or enforced so no one actually gets dragged into an Encounter With The Police

Stop what you're doing and read this.
A couple people have asked and so I want to be clear: YES please do a version of this story for your local sports mascots. Send it to me! This is what I want my legacy to be!

As an aside, I just noticed that if you google a font, google displays the entire results page in that font.

Which is neat.
I refuse to surrender classical antiquity or Times New Roman font to the fascists.
Marco Rubio ordered diplomats to return to using Times New Roman font in official communications, calling his predecessor's decision to adopt Calibri a “wasteful” diversity move

Jess Stenson Australian record at Valencia marathon!!! We love to see it!! She's raced so well in "championship style races" so good to see her smash a very very fast one out as well 🤩 Feels like a real breakthrough moment for her, which seems weird since she's been Aus distance 👑 for so long

I liked this, arguing against the idea there is an LLM "voice" that's inherent to some aspect of the technology

With the Zatopek:10 on next Saturday we’ve looked at the trophies and put together the “Winners Lists” for this historic event - surely the longest running perpetual 10000m trophy in the world?

Preview coming early next week

The "Peter Costello and his staffers ate porridge to save taxpayers' money" anecdote at the start of this piece is killing me. They were staying in a hotel where a continental breakfast cost the equivalent of AU $100!!!

There are *no* Australians currently banned from athletics! What are we doing?! Are we rule-breaking larrikins? Are we a nation of cops, dobbing on each other? Neither, apparently!!
I don't see anything new here, but they spoke to David Howman of the AIU about Ruth Chepngetich's case and doping in track & field.

This is actually about a corporate landlord locking out the growers... The landlord is an asset manager with a business model based on asset price inflation premium of 1-2% plus the rental yields (AFR article in next post)...

This is 100% not my experience. I have not seen any real change in students' reading or texts or of course requirements. I've been tutoring (taking discussion sections) for... 10 years?
An issue we're seeing at all levels of university is that many students are simply refusing to do *anything*. They aren't reading the syllabus, aren't following assignment guidelines, aren't engaging with material, ignoring deadlines. And this might seem like old news, but it truly has ramped up.
