ハロウィン🎃の音楽の旅: 👻25&26日目

今日は約330年あまりの過去に遡る曲にしたいと思う。選んだのは17-18世紀を跨いで活躍したフランスの作曲家のマラン・マレーによる「手術台」という曲である。ハロウィーンとの関連はないけど、その演奏が醸し出す雰囲気はハロウィンにぴったりと思う。

タイトルから察するように、手術を描写される一曲である。具体的にどのような手術を描いているかというと、尿路結石を排除する手術だ。現代の医療技術の礎が築き始める当時は麻酔がなく、患者は意識がある状態で手術台に上ることは通常であった。

Today's song is "Ghosts of Light" by the Icelandic band Solstafir.

My take on this particular piece is that provides a raw depiction of a spirit's anger over an utterly futile end, and the resolve to continue resisting that fate.

今日の曲はソルスターフィアと名乗るアイスランド出身のバンドが送る「光の幽霊」だ。

拙僧なりの解釈ですが、この曲は「無念の死」に対する怒り、そして運命に抗い続ける霊（たま）を生々しく表現していると思う。特に気に入り歌詞は下記の通りだ。

ハロウィンまで後九日間となり、いよいよファイナルストレッチに入った。さて、今日の曲はレッドツェッペリンの「限りなき戦い」。

この曲を聴くと霜柱に覆われた地面の上に飛び舞う落ち葉のイメージが思い浮かぶ。下記の歌詞もハロウィンの雰囲気に相応しいと思う。

今日の曲はザ・キュアの初期に作った名曲「ザ・フォレスト(森林)」で行きたいと思う。曲の構成は割りと簡素的である一方、そこに想像力を膨らませる要素がたっぷり織り込んでいる。ギータ―、ベースとドラムが見事に重ね合い、恐怖に怯えた彷徨いを作り出していくところがこの曲の醍醐味であり、10月末ごろに落葉がだいぶ進んだ森の廃れた風景を思い浮かばせる。ロバート・スミス氏は叫んでおらずに十分その森の狂気を描き出す。

今日の曲はマーズ・ヴォルタによる「アシロスマグダレナ」だ。

マーズ・ヴォルタと言えば、抽象的な歌詞で非現実的な世界観を醸し出す曲がこのバンドの特徴である。この曲を解読するのはやや難しいだけど、下記の歌詞から見れば闇に憑りつかれた心の葛藤を描写しているではないかと思う。

今日の曲はノルウェーの作曲家グリーグによる「ペール・ギュント」の第一組曲からの「山の魔王の宮殿にて」だ。

「山の魔王」とは、物語の主人公ペール・ギュントが山の中で出会った妖精トロールの王。ノルウェーでは、現在でもトロールの存在を信じている人が多く、日常生活でふっと物が無くなった際には「トロールのいたずら」と言われるほど。ちなみに、スタジオジブリのアニメ映画作品『となりのトトロ』もこの妖精「トロール」から着想を得たものと考えられる。

今日の曲は椎名林檎の「勝訴ストリップ」のアルバムからの5番目曲である「闇に降る雨」だ。初めてこの曲を聴いたとき、その狂気に魅惑され、思わずに誘われて（いざなわれて）行った。この曲のタイトルは拙僧が思い出す子供の頃のハロウィンの夜を連想させる。冷たい雨に濡れた樹から落ちた葉っぱが言葉に表せない独特な香りがする。その香りが米国の中西部で育った拙僧のハロウィンの思い出に刻まれている。この映像の彩りもハロウィンの雰囲気を鮮明に醸し出すと思う。

ハロウィンまで後二週間となった。今日は曲ではく、AFIの短偏アルバムである「All Hallow's EP」を送る。
このEPは「ホラーパンク」の典範にもなっていると言われている。一曲目である「秋の子」ではハロウィンの夜の光景が如実に描写されている。

今日の曲はJoy Divisionの「Day of the Lords (神々の日）」である。

初めてこの曲を聴いたときの印象をはっきり覚えている。まずその不吉な音色を裏付ける重々しいベースのリフ、そしてその上に乗せるギータ―。収録の編集によりそのギータはまるで長い廊下の終端まで響き渡るの如し、かなり不気味な淋しさを醸し出す。歌詞が描かれる光景を想像してみたら、「これは正に悪夢」という恐怖を感じる。真っ夜中に一人でこの曲を聴くのに相当の勇気がないとな。ゴシックホラーの極まりに候。

今日の曲である「林檎」は、９０年代にニューヨークで結成したチボマットという二人の日本人のグループのデビューアルバムからの一番目の曲だ。

始めてこの曲を聞いたとき、まるで異国に誘われたのような感じがした。和洋折衷の趣に包まれたこの曲だけど、ギザギザするギターの上に載せられる歌声が不吉な兆しを醸し出してるという印象を受けるのは拙僧だけかも。

今日の曲は大好きな映画「ザ・グリーン・ナイト」からの「一年後」という曲だ。

映画においてこの曲が流れている間、ちょうどそのクリスマスの日からの一年間の季節の移ろいが描かれていく。緑の騎士と再び一騎打ちの日が近づいていくにつれて、ガウェインの心の中に募っていく不安と恐怖がこの曲の不気味な音色に鮮明に描写され、不吉な兆しを告げる。クリスマスの日で始まりとクリスマスの日に終わるこの物語だけど、ホラー要素満載この映画のサウンドトラックがそのハロウィンの雰囲気を十分醸し出している。
