Dear NYT - artillery shells do not “drop” “fragments”.

“The current projectile is the 103-pound M795…that fragments into lethal shrapnel when the shell detonates. The lethal radius is around fifty meters making it one of the most effective weapons available.”

If there really was an “escaped cartel member” on the loose, the last thing the real investigators on the case would want is these clowns messing up their investigation, spooking their informants, and drawing attention.

Serious organized crime investigations require thousands of hours of investigative work - undercover agents, combing through mountains of financial records, cultivating informants, etc. Think “The Sopranos” or “Breaking Bad”.

Masked guys rolling around playing tough guy is NOT part of the job.

Feds on my block this afternoon, in suburban Chicago. 4-5 SUVs, helicopter overhead. They had CBP markings on their vests and claimed to be looking for an escaped “cartel member” but had time to stop and tell me I was supporting criminals by telling them to go fuck off. 1/
