"Chillest man in Hollywood," according to Mike Schur (actual location: Chicagoland). Work: TV business editor/innings eater at The Hollywood Reporter. Signal: rwp.07
Yes, those sleepy little burgs of, uh, New York and L.A., vaulted into the consciousness by Darren Star television shows. He’s now doing the same for, let’s see here … Paris.

(this is from Netflix’s “Emily in Paris” renewal announcement earlier today)

OK, so based on polling numbers, the “average American”:
- thinks AI is bad
- doesn’t care for the current president
- is not happy about rising health care costs
- wants a wealth tax on the very very rich
- doesn’t like mass deportation as a policy

Whatcha got on those, CBS News?

My late brother was an Indiana alum; he was there for the 1981 men’s hoops title but the football team was mediocre at best - late Lee Corso era, they were about .500 in his 4 years and went to one bowl game. I am smiling broadly on his behalf today.

The braised lamb over an eggplant/cream/cheese puree at Jose Andres’ Zaytinya in DC is one of the best things @lisamtp.bsky.social and I have ever eaten. Tonight she made it for our NYE dinner (following the Zaytinya cookbook) and goddam it was glorious. Fantastic way to close out the year.

First plane trip with all 3 kids meant a lot of extra stuff to haul on and off, and they were all too small to carry anything substantial. Lots of kind words from fellow passengers, and then when we landed a guy grabbed several of our things and took them onto the jetway where we could regroup.
I would like to hear about a time someone, a stranger even, was very kind to you without any prompting, ulterior motive, or strings attached.

Highly recommend this Tribune story on ICE’s Chicago operation — and the brave resistance it faced here. (Gift link.)

64 days in Chicago: The story of Operation Midway Blitz
President Donald Trump’s federal immigration enforcement operation led to most surreal autumn in Chicago history. What happened during those 64 days will be remembered for a long time.

Not sure I’ve seen a dumber 2 minutes of NFL play this year than what just transpired in the Texans-Chargers game. (Caveat that I have not watched the Browns or Jets much)

Eldest child painted a medieval-style script of my full name and I think it’s one of the best Christmas gifts I’ve ever received.

I am now at or very close to the highest follower count I had on twitter, so thank you recent influx of bots and occasional actual people. I promise to remain a semi-committed poster, but not really over the next couple weeks.

Happy holidays to all y’all.

When that asshole kicks, I’m gonna keep my thoughts to myself, but I sure as hell won’t blame anyone who doesn’t.
