Horrified German interpreter & translator and lover of democracy watching the US sleepwalk into an autocracy if there is no serious resistance and debunking of myths. These past few years have been a steep learning curve. Let us keep learning together!

Lenient judges failed Germany:

"Hitler was found guilty of treason and sentenced to five years in Landsberg Prison, where he dictated Mein Kampf to fellow prisoners Emil Maurice and Rudolf Hess. On 20 December 1924, having served only nine months, Hitler was released."

How Trump’s ICE may draw the wrong recruits
In years past, agents were largely motivated by allegiance to the Constitution. Not anymore

A war correspondent who says Minneapolis reminds him most of the Arab Spring, which he witnessed firsthand. Vivid portrait of decentralized resistance in the US, & the persistence of community organizing after George Floyd’s murder & the continued hypernormalization of trauma on our schoolchildren.
This is a really incredible piece. Share it widely 🎁https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/2026/01/minneapolis-uprising/685755/?gift=C-rzmQ8PsUHt15odxTKJDn7xrpPNxSpotkNz_P27oI0

A 45-year old movie proving to still be relevant. Back than, however, it seemed to be commonly understood that Nazis are bad 🤔

UPDATE: Minnesota Department of Corrections puts out a statement refuting Bovino’s lies about the man they say they were arresting before they killed Alex Pretti.

The Trump regime’s lies are endless.

Lies, violence and the American state
Trump abhors democracy because it allows ordinary Americans to reject his lies. Even worse for Trump, it allows us to reject him.

There is no way in hell the United States under the Trump regime can host the World Cup in a few months.

They are murdering citizens in broad daylight, threatening war against NATO, and lawlessly kidnapping children and foreign heads of state.

The world has to organize a boycott. It’s not safe.

This photo was so powerful.

Please be safe, but record everything you can.

If this administration is lying again and again.

Thankfully, people are recording everything

A Black man was killed by ICE (off duty) in Los Angeles on New Year’s Eve. And like Renée Good, he was an American citizen. But most people have not heard about Keith Porter.

I need y’all to realize this. Black people experience this lack of visibility all the time when it comes to being victims.

We now live in a country that will execute you for recording what our federal government is doing in the streets, and rendering aid to another innocent bystander who was pepper sprayed in the face.

You have to read this. Firsthand affidavit from one of the women who was there and recording the video. She talks about how Alex Pretti was directing traffic when she arrived. She watched him be killed in front of her. She's afraid to go home, worried she'll be arrested.

The people of Minnesota are an inspiration. They’re out in the freezing cold protesting ICE brutality and protecting their communities. They're delivering groceries to their vulnerable neighbors and forming human chains around schools during pickups.

We can’t leave them to do this work alone.

I attempted to go to an ICE patrol training here in LA this morning and they had to turn most of us away because of capacity issues and even as I was leaving I saw a ton more folks showing up

so that’s how well their attempts to scare everyone away are going, even in the face of murder
