A fuller intro: Noah, he/him, left-handed / -politicked. My dog's Clark. My cat's Minerva.

For sickos: I run a fictional baseball league set in a 🇵🇷 that became free in 1868. I call games every week. Catch that at @lnpgaceta.org.

Clark is a very floofy white dog with dark brown eyes and lips who is happily hoarding a red Kong and brown fuzzy teddy bear with a tan belly. His ears are back and eyes fully round, and teeth shown in a grin of toy-addled craziness. Minerva is a dilute tortoiseshell kitty—she’s gray with stripey markings in tan all over, like latte swirls. She sits on an iPad with one paw out in front of her and the other tucked in, like a proper lady, and has ears back and narrow eyes because she’s probably hearing a bird.

The widest grin any being on Earth has ever registered, courtesy of floofball Clark, who is currently getting bidirectional pets while his tongue hangs out in spoiled excitement. He is *so* happy. His ears are lowered in love and happiness. His eyes are joyfully round. This could not be a happier dog if he had every treat in the house. Minerva, our dilute tortie, stares at a nutcracker she is 100000% about to smack and get yelled at. Her wonderfully soft and pretty face is full of impish delight in the violence she is about to inflict, her eyes wide with MURDER.

My favorite part of parent teacher conferences is discovering how many of them don’t bother to ask their kid basic follow-up questions.

I got accused of not responding to a student’s message some time ago. Got home. Sat down. Looked at my inbox. The response is there, clear as day.

But this article points out another issue: AI relies on badly paid data labellers from poor countries working in terrible conditions.

Aside from our projects, Louisa and I have something else in common: we're both southpaws.

Imagine that a particularly fluffy and angelic cloud sprouted two triangular pink ears; a brown eye and a permanent wink; a brownish-pink nose; a little pink tongue open in an adorable smile. You may then have some small idea of how handsome my dog Clark is, as he stands on the wooden floor of my kitchen, bathed in its golden light. Clark, his snout decorated with little streaks of his favorite peanut butter that I haven’t been able to get off him, looks back at me while I pet his ruffly neck. It remains insane to me that DOGE was treated at the time as an impressive shock and awe accomplishment - “you can’t deny he’s getting stuff done!” - and then instantly memory holed by the press once if became clear it was a total failure by every possible standard including Musk’s own

Difficult to overstate how profound a failure DOGE was. Spending in FY2025 was not only than in FY2024 – but higher than it was projected to be when Trump first took office.*

The little bit of spending DOGE cut has already killed hundreds of thousands and will eventually lead to millions of deaths.

If you look carefully, they market this fact.

They hype "personalized" learning, by which they mean "algorithmically generated per student"

So if I'm given a word problem I can't talk to my classmates about it, bc they don't have the same one
