A fuller intro: Noah, he/him, left-handed / -politicked. My dog's Clark. My cat's Minerva.

For sickos: I run a fictional baseball league set in a 🇵🇷 that became free in 1868. I call games every week. Catch that at @lnpgaceta.org.

I also co-host a podcast about food called No Substitutions, Please.
Clark is a very floofy white dog with dark brown eyes and lips who is happily hoarding a red Kong and brown fuzzy teddy bear with a tan belly. His ears are back and eyes fully round, and teeth shown in a grin of toy-addled craziness. Minerva is a dilute tortoiseshell kitty—she’s gray with stripey markings in tan all over, like latte swirls. She sits on an iPad with one paw out in front of her and the other tucked in, like a proper lady, and has ears back and narrow eyes because she’s probably hearing a bird.

horny Roman augurs be like “omina omina omina”

Woof. They straight up cauterized the one that wouldn’t stop bleeding; the last time I had something burned off, I smelled a lot better. My diet must’ve gotten worse.

I teach everything between 7th and 12th, and let me tell you: it *doesn’t* get better.

They’re nowhere near the jugular, but the way the rest of my life is currently going, of course I’d get the incompetent vampire.

Yesterday I got a bunch of my skin tags snipped off, which I realized far too late means I’m walking around in October with what look an awful lot like two puncture wounds on my neck.

I have zero problem with Joe Espada remaining at the helm of this club, because what has become utterly clear between him and the Baker years is that most fans still don’t understand that baseball is a game played by actual human beings, not a collection of numbers shaped into a statistical profile.

Some of my fellow Astros fans watched this team have enough IL stints to put together a roster, stay in contention to almost the end of the season, and responded that if secret White Mage A.J. Hinch had been in the dugout their arms and legs would’ve just knit themselves back together more quickly.

The thing about me is that I’ll put up with a million kinds of annoying posts, because I’m terminally convinced everyone is just tolerating me, but what will get you muted every time is getting high off your own supply.

That guy in particular used to make his bona fides on social media as a Republican who understood how fascist his party was becoming. Not that it matters, gringos gonna gringo, but somehow I’m less shocked in this case.

He was a rescue from a puppy mill and we speculated that he must’ve been on the receiving end of some bad stuff from other dogs, but we don’t really know at all. The couple times we ran into dogs he didn’t mind, their humans also fostered and their dogs were used to jumpy rescues, I guess?
nsmckinnon.bsky.social
Clark is a medium-sized white fluffy dog and I never did, for the life of me, understand what his deal was with other dogs.

He did finally calm down in his old age, but I’d be trying to say hi to another dog walker, all good, their dog would be totally chill, and he’d suddenly turn aggressive.

SUPPORT TRANS PUERTO RICANS

We learned a few days ago that on 10/6, Medicaid in Puerto Rico will stop covering all medications used for gender-affirming care.

True Self Foundation has established an emergency fund to cover the cost of GAC for trans Puerto Ricans, but they need more funding to meet the vast need.

The link to donate is in the KHJN Trans Health page bio.
Trans people in Puerto Rico are facing an unprecedented crisis. This Medicaid announcement comes just months after a ban on gender-affirming care for anyone under 21 was signed into law.

True Self Foundation is assisting trans youth + their families as well as trans adults. Donate to provide direct support to trans people in Puerto Rico.

It's not just that they're going to strike down a law against conversion therapy, it's that they're going to do it on behalf of made-up claims from a straw plaintiff who can't honestly show the law affected her at all

One thing about American's widespread distrust and disapproval of the Supreme Court is that mainstream news coverage mostly doesn't dwell on stuff like standing, so people don't even begin to grasp how rigged the Court truly is www.nytimes.com/live/2025/10...

I told my sophomores—my most incurious, chuddiest class—that I would’ve rather spent last Thursday teaching them than pacing around my house worried about Clark’s eyeball.

They took absolutely no time disabusing me of the illusion that it would’ve been time better spent.

I see pieces like this a lot, often w/ a spin of lamenting cultural degeneration, but reading is a LABOR issue, it’s declined because so many people are working overtime or two jobs & employers expect after hours work. France has Earth’s highest reading rate b/c long lunch breaks & labor protections

As you read this puff piece about how brave and steadfast Amy Coney Barrett is, keep in mind that the house of South Carolina circuit court judge Diane Goodstein exploded over the weekend and some of her family members barely escaped with their lives. She had recently ruled against the admin.
As justices confront harassment, death threats and an assassination attempt, Barrett declares "I'm not afraid"
In an interview with CBS News, Justice Amy Coney Barrett said of the Supreme Court's emergency orders in the Trump cases, "This isn't the final decision."

i don’t think it’s hyperbolic to put this ruling alongside plessy v ferguson (holding separate but equal is fine, actually) as one of the worst moments in the supreme court’s history.

the supreme court’s history is horrific so this is really saying something!

*clears throat*: time to re-post the kavanaugh concurrence again!
Kavanaugh concurrence: The Government
sometimes makes brief investigative stops to check the
immigration status of those who gather in locations where
people are hired for day jobs; who work or appear to work
in jobs such as construction, landscaping, agriculture, or car
washes that often do not require paperwork and are
therefore attractive to illegal immigrants; and who do not
speak much if any English. If the officers learn that the
individual they stopped is a U. S. citizen or otherwise
lawfully in the United States, they promptly let the
individual go
