May the history of the Daily News, when it is written, reflect that upon unanimous ratification of the first contract in more than three decades, the next words uttered in the Zoom call were those of street reporter Kerry Burke: “Okay, I got a homicide. I gotta go.”

This was a hard-fought contract, and for the first time in recent history, we now have an actual system for annual raises at the Daily News.

A monumental win with this ratification vote.

(And Kerry is the best street reporter around, brotha.)

Shame on Condé Nast management. If you can't take questions, don't be in the business of hiring reporters.
Breaking News: Late last night Conde Nast illegally fired 4 union organizers who asked company execs to explain the downsizing of Teen Vogue and continued layoffs. We’ve filed a grievance.

This is the first CBA the for the paper's newsroom in 34 years. This is by all measures a historic accomplishment.

When we formed this union five years ago, we aimed to safeguard against the wrath of Alden, a hedge fund notorious for scrapping newspapers for parts.

We've reached the end of a three-year battle... and come out the other side with health care for part timers, raises, and much more. This would never have happened without the dedicated support of so many people at the Daily News, former Daily Newers, and many others. 🖖🏻

"That fact seemed unfathomable to me given the way The News always embodied the rowdiest, the best and the most profanely purposeful newsroom I had ever seen, and (with permission for a bit of New York grandiosity here) the world had ever known." NYDN vet Charles Sennott on a News without a newsroom.
Alden to News: Drop Dead
Alden Global Capital, the hedge fund that owns the feisty New York Daily News, has gutted what was one of the most powerful voices for working people in the city.
