I need, NEED a @defector.com deep dive into the world of coed adult cheerleading that I can only assume will bring a surprisingly empathetic perspective to the participants while still uncovering some kind of deep rot within the sport itself
Bill Belichick attended a cheerleading competition in Raleigh, where he supported his girlfriend Jordon, a member of a coed adult cheerleading team. #BillBelichick #CollegeFootball #football

NEW: ProPublica has found multiple cases of women with underlying health conditions who died when they couldn’t access abortions.

Tierra Walker, a 37-year-old mother, was told by doctors there was no emergency before preeclampsia killed her.

Are infrastructure upgrades in school zones improving safety, or are drivers finding new and exciting ways to put kids' lives in danger? (Both? Both.)

New from me for CBS Pittsburgh (please enjoy hearing me yelp "the school bus ran the stop sign!"):
Dangerous driving near Pittsburgh-area schools has parents and students worried
For most students, the most dangerous part of their day is going to and from school.

It is so embarrassing to ask about that time MBS ordered a journalist to be dismembered
Trump suggests Khashoggi had it coming: "You're mentioning someone that was extremely controversial. A lot of people didn't like that gentleman that you're talking about. Whether you like him or didn't like him, things happen. But he knew nothing about it. You don't have to embarrass our guest."

I moved desks last week and apparently I'm allergic to something in this part of the newsroom but not in my old part of the newsroom.

My eyes feel like bocce balls on the beach. If anyone has tips for dry/gritty/burning eyes, please share.

Every article I have seen about this from the LOCAL NEWS ON UP had committed the cardinal sin of journalism: not one of them has gotten the name of the dog

And that's because they're write-ups of the police report and the cops didn't get the dog's name either.

God I love local news and unions and local news unions
May the history of the Daily News, when it is written, reflect that upon unanimous ratification of the first contract in more than three decades, the next words uttered in the Zoom call were those of street reporter Kerry Burke: “Okay, I got a homicide. I gotta go.”

BREAKING: DOJ goes to SCOTUS trying to stop a district court order that USDA pay out full SNAP benefits this month.

The First Circuit denied an administrative stay, but has not yet ruled on the stay request. And, CNN reported that USDA is already processing payments.

DOJ went to SCOTUS anyway.

Newsroom caller just accused us of not covering the elimination of SNAP benefits because we're in the tank for Trump.

There are five stories on the CBS News Pittsburgh homepage right now about the failure to fund SNAP, the consequences, and how to get help.

They haven't released a list of the locations yet but FAA Admin. Byron Bedford said, "We've identified high-traffic environment markets." Going by this highly scientific list, PIT is #48 but this does, of course, affect anyone flying out of/to PIT with a busy airport as origin or destination.

Incredible stuff tonight in Allegheny County

District 1:
Harris +4
Dem +21

District 3:
Harris +4
Dem +20

District 4:
Trump +1
Dem +21

District 9:
Trump +1
Dem +27(!!)

And Alex Rose will win by double digits.
I’ll be watching Allegheny County Council races closely tonight.

Districts 1 and 3, are both open seats where Kamala Harris won by 4 points. Will Democrats improve on that?

Trump won Districts 4 and 9 by a single point. Can the GOP flip Dem-held council seats there?

Will Alex Rose’s gambit work??
