it should go without saying but if you want users to voluntarily tag their art then you need to not threaten to ban them if they do. like, you can either have a well-regulated, easily-filtered art ecosystem or you can ban art you don’t like and see it come oozing back out of every crack and crevice

To be very clear: SA does not just look like 'rough sex'. SA is complicated, it can look exactly like vanilla missionary sex. Insisting that there's a clear visual difference hurts SA survivors as much as it hurts kink artists.

regulating how and when and in what tone and in what art and on what platforms and what feelings you're supposed to have about it when it comes to discussing sexual assault is just a tool to suppress discussion of it. It is another way to force sexual assault back into the realm of secrecy and shame

this means creators with any marginalized identities—including creators of color, queer creators, disabled creators—are EXTREMELY likely to feel the harshest penalties under policies like this, while content farms and fascists will slip around moderation due to their willingness to abuse the system.

THEN: these policies are impossible to enforce evenly. fictional people don't exist to consent, so "consensual" depiction is ALWAYS a judgment call. even with the best intent, human error and unconscious bias are in the process. community reporting is EXTREMELY susceptible to malicious manipulation.

dodging moderation tools, disguising what you're doing, and having fewer marginalized identities (so you're less likely to be targeted by trolls), all make you more likely to stick around. but the people using proper content & trigger warnings, which give users some real options, get swept away.

guidelines like this don't stop the disallowed content—but they DO make it extremely inequitable who is allowed to STAY PLATFORMED while making and distributing the disallowed content.

hey! these guidelines, especially regarding completely legal NSFW content, are definitely going to make Bluesky less safe overall! this absolutely sucks and I'm really angry and disappointed!
