Any views expressed here are my personal reckons only.
All of this just makes a change of government next year even more crucial so we can make sure local authorities serve local communities, not the whims of whoever happens to occupy the Beehive at the time.
This is the plan that the coalition government says is "not about centralising power". Jesus wept. www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...

"Climate Change Minister Simon Watts says the Government is no longer committed to advocating for a global phase-out of fossil fuels"
How far we have fallen.

Australia, the UK, the EU and Pacific nations backed a roadmap to phase out fossil fuels at COP30, but New Zealand turned its back.

A very disappointing start to the new Mayor's term. Chung ofc immediately starts beating Little with the olive branch he's been handed, let's see how many more whacks from Council's most toxic players he'll endure before he wises up.

In his first council meeting as Wellington mayor, Andrew Little opened a political rift between Labour and the Greens.

No one should have to face such threats.

It would’ve been nice if Greene had realized this before she amplified and endorsed calls for executing Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama.

Reminder that the world spends 7 times as much on fossil fuel subsidies (~$7 trillion annually, ~7% of global GDP) than it does on renewables, which as of 2025 provide twice the bang for buck invested, even without the cost of ruining the biosphere.

In other words, late capitalism is a death cult.
Scientists now say we're on track for a catastrophic 2.6C temperature rise.

It would mean the end of agriculture in the UK and across Europe and drought and monsoon failure in Asia and Africa, with lethal heat and humidity widespread.

We have more than enough for everyone to have a good life.
You know how they want to “sell the silverware” because we are all living well beyond our means & apparently drowning in debt?

Yeah, BULLSHIT. It’s just another daylight robbery being plotted by some of the most corrupt politicians on earth. Don’t fall for it. #nzpol #OneTermGovernment

Del Toro's Frankenstein seemed to me a gorgeous but lifeless diorama; all gothic aesthetic, none of the gothic *affect*; hyperrealism in the lens jarringly at odds with the surrealism of its subject. I've rarely vibed with his films & but it's only with Frankenstein that I've figured out why.

Has heaps to teach those who want to win but to do so they will have to take power from the mediocre apparatchiks who care more about retaining their baubles of authority within the movement than they do about its success.
Obviously the Mamdani victory has nothing to teach Labour because he came out of the grass roots populist DSA and the Labour right deliberately killed any community based organising of that type and would move any and all institutional levers in their control to stop a Mamdani emerging

A truly outstanding speech by a dude who truly understands the brief history has given him. This is the future of progressive politics. Bold, determined, unapologetic, inclusive, and relentlessly focused on making ordinary people's lives better. I'm so here for it 🙌
Mamdani: "We can respond to oligarchy and authoritarianism with the strength it fears, not the appeasement it craves. After all, if anyone can show a nation betrayed by Donald Trump how to defeat him, it is the city that gave rise to him."

Zohran is showing us how it's done. It's so satisfying to see the panic and confusion from corporate politicians and their media pals against someone running on authenticity. It's time for real progressives to take the wheel, & for those who'd rather be captains on a sinking ship to walk the plank.
