Looking like we'll have an even stronger Greens/Labour majority on WCC. Nice.
joelmacmanus.bsky.social
The new Wellington City Council will include 5 Labour councillors and 4 Green councillors, plus Andrew Little, giving the two party "coalition" an increased governing majority - 10 out of 16 votes, compared to 8 under the previous council.

Sorry we won't have your experience around the Council table 😢 no doubt you'll put it to use in other awesome ways. But first, I hope, a well earned nap.

Smart move by Brown. Cloudseeding to produce more rain will mean those who have to walk to a bus stop will be less likely to leave the house, reducing the public transport drain on the public purse.

Last night I dreamt about Slavoj Žižek getting into a drunken brawl outside an Italian restaurant.

I'm not sure what it means but anyway local body voting closes this Sat at 12pm so please get on that and vote to KEEP Māori wards

Not saying I'll be surprised if Lab end up with a completely weaksauce policy platform come campaign season, but I'm withholding my disappointment in their policies (or lack of) til then. There are legit strategic reasons (even if I don't agree with them) for keeping mum for now.

Yo I hear ya. I'm not a Labour supporter and if I was I'd want better than Chippie. But his comments re Greens/TPM have been a lot more measured and respectful over the past couple months - he could've really laid in over Takuta and didn't. I think he's learning.
nzrazzledazzle.bsky.social
In fairness, he didn't say they won't reverse it, he's just not making policy commitments until closer to the election. Which is, yes, very frustrating for those of us who follow the day to day of politics outside election year.

It's frustrating for those of us who follow the day to day of politics outside of election years, but a lot of people don't - Labour's strategy seems to be to hold off and announce this stuff once folks are paying attention. Remains to be seen whether they'll actually deliver.

Yeah, I think you're confusing "I haven't heard anything" with "she hasn't said anything". Aunty doesn't control your social media algorithm or what your preferred media outlets choose to report on.

'NZ on wrong side of history on Palestine' - Helen Clark
Former Prime Minister Helen Clark said the government's decision not to recognise a Palestinian state was very disappointing.

Few stories so well encapsulate the sheer incompetence of the current PMO like this one. Leaking a letter to media *half an hour* after sending it to Chippie, apparently anticipating that this would reflect badly on Chippie instead of Luxon. The mind boggles.

This clusterfuck would never have happened if Hamish Rutherford was still in charge.

That's not to say the new standards get the balance right - I don't feel qualified to make that assessment, and I'd be curious to see the other reform options suggested by officials. But the existing standards had hundreds of buildings across the country sitting empty for years on end.

Winston’s speech to the UN confirms the government’s loyalty to Israel and the USA: refuses to recognise a Palestinian state.

New Zealand is now in an even smaller minority of countries and will be despised by many around the world and at home.

The WaPo editorial about Trump's autism bullshit really does go there. wapo.st/423IhOe
nzrazzledazzle.bsky.social
I couldn't be diagnosed with Autism despite otherwise meeting the criteria because back in the 90s the guidance for doctors (at least as applied here in Aotearoa) was that you could have either ADHD or Autism, not *both*.
