Discuss anxiety issues, especially OCD. Want to spread the word that CBT is only a short term fix for anxiety, but doesn't cure it long term, so you will be continually recovering then relapsing. Psychodynamic therapy (psychoanalysis) is the long term cure
Many books and articles about anxiety disorders state that the anxiety is a false alarm. It’s a little bit more nuanced than that

I agree with Mr Shedler’s statement, as I have had two CBT for OCD on two separate occasions, and while it helped reduce my anxiety in the short-term, it didn’t provide a cure, and so my OCD made a comeback. With CBT, you will be stuck in a recovery and relapse loop for the rest of your life

One prominent part of the article is where Mr Shedler states ‘Empirical research actually shows that evidence-based therapies are ineffective for most patients most of the time’.

The respected psychologist Jonathan Shedler has published an article suggesting that it doesn’t provide the best outcome for patients:

CBT practitioners love to say their therapy is evidence-based, meaning that it provides the best outcome for patients. But does it really?

People from the behaviourist school of therapy (i.e. the B part of CBT) try to criticise psychoanalysis by suggesting that is impossible for a non-physical thing (the mind) to interact with a physical thing (the brain)

CBT is a combination of two therapies - cognitive and behavioural. But the combination is contradictory, as cognitive therapy deals with thoughts, but behavioural therapy says thoughts play no role in a person's behaviour

It annoys me when therapists say ‘everyone gets intrusive thoughts, so don’t let it bother you too much’. For OCD people the thoughts generate large amounts of anxiety, whereas for other people, little or no anxiety is generated, so they can easily dismiss the thought

In my website, I also answer a question that OCD sufferers find very confusing, which is ‘why do they get anxious even though they know the thought is irrational’?

Psychodynamic therapy (psychoanalysis) is the cure for OCD, as it looks for its root cause

Mindfulness, which doesn’t try to stop OCD thoughts, can indirectly stop the current set of OCD thoughts, but once again, another set of thoughts will be generated in the future, so it does not provide a cure

CBT can stop the current set of OCD thoughts, but sooner or later, another set of thoughts will be generated, so you will be trapped in a cycle of recovery and relapse for the rest of your life

The main psychological treatment for OCD is CBT, but it ignores the root cause of OCD (trauma or stress) and assumes that the problem lies entirely in the mind

An OCD thought is a message that something else needs fixing, such as trauma or stress

OCD is more of a cry for help than a mental illness
