🚀 As we wait for the next CME — and maybe more aurora action — here’s a look at what’s racing toward Earth! ⚡️ This eruption and CME blasted out with yesterday’s X5.2 flare, complete with a powerful shock and particles hitting the cameras. Fingers crossed 🤞 and skies clear! 🌌

Looks like Bz is northwards (although decreasing) so we may be in for disappointment tonight unless the situation changes. The weather is awful here and I have a 6am flight so I am signing off for tonight 🌧️👋

We have upgraded our geomagnetic forecast today (12 November 2025) to the highest intensity level amid an ongoing solar storm.

Current predictions suggest that the activity will result in potentially the largest solar storm to hit our planet in over two decades.

There is now a G5 (extreme) geomagnetic storm watch in place (Met Office), we are waiting for the third eruption to arrive although, due to uncertainty in the propagation models it is unclear whether it will arrive today or tomorrow 🌞💨🌎👀 #SpaceWeather #Aurora #StephsStormWatch

In 1892 E.E. Barnard discovered Jupiter's 5th moon, Amalthea, the last moon found by eye through a telescope. Over the next 80 years photos were B&W, and improved only a little over the period.

Here is the latest SWPC graphic regarding the recent X1.2 flare from AR 4274. Again, X-flares are not unusual around solar maximum, and Earth-directed CMEs of this caliber are not "dangerous." This is not a Carrington-class event by ANY means.

Japan's "Mundane Halloween" costume contest is back!

Each year website DailyPortalZ holds a contest where people dress up as something super duper ordinary.

Here's a thread of some of my favorites from the 2025 contest!

Let's start with the Cosmic Bat Nebula (LDN 43). 🧪🔭

What possible use could the "People Who Teach You How To Understand and Work With Ideas and Information" have in the age of "The Machine That Punches Out Information of Questionable Quality"?
Wow. Just wow.
