I hope you find something worth your “time on task”. In a world that celebrates instant I hope you find something that allows time & patience to replace cash as the infinite added value. Better I hope you find a community that shares & adds a glorious whole vastly greater than the sum of its parts.
A grilled veggie calzone on a speckled white ceramic plate.
But also, a ceramic plate my husband made with a partner teacher from scratch. She’s a degree wielding ceramicist. The crust was roasted in a pizza oven my husband ordered from Italy on the recommendation of students’ in his class father’s recommendation. They emigrated here from Italy. Some of the vegetables we grew from seed in our backyard or at our plot in our neighborhood community garden. Some we bought from our local urban farm. The point is the shared “time on task”, the glorious product of community rather than capitalist interest.
My encouragement is you find something that values your time and brings you into community even with one other. Maybe zinnias from seed, easy inexpensive and attractive to hummingbirds. Seed saving is easy. So your small initial investment could last a lifetime and introduce you to new friends. Invest your time in a task that brings joy regardless of the reward.

In honor of #NationalNoodleDay I am re-sharing this recent addition to my #CozySciFi List. Highly recommend.

I’m adding @annaleen.bsky.social #AutomaticNoodle to my #CozySciFi list. Fantastic read that envisions a plausible near future dystopia populated by sentient ai. SciFi at its best invites us to consider possible futures while reflecting on a problematic present. I💙 the characters. More, pls #Booksky
Book cover Automatic noodle. Teal background. Image looks like it was 3d printed cartoon style. Orange base includes the Golden Gate Bridge and an oversized takeaway noodle container. A yellow robot hand uses chopsticks to grab. Flat wide pink and red ombré noodles out of the carton. Multiple yellow small robots perch on the Orange base.

Please keep writing, this sounds fantastic.

beautiful, intense meditation on trauma, hopelessness, and redemption. This #GraphicNovel is color rich artwork, an adventurous first contact mission to Mars, and a sly personification depicting the value of support when others are experiencing a mental health crisis. Kind encouragement #BookSky CW:

Omg. Omg. Omg I can not explain how excited I am to read this book. Stardust Grail was BRILLIANT. Thanks to whomever told me one could place a library hold before a book is published & it actually helps libraries decide how many copies they need. #BookSky #ReadingJoy
This is a screenshot inside the Libby app displaying that my audiobook Yume Kitasei’s Saltcrop is now available.

Monday should stay where it belongs. But here I am accepting it’s struggle baton and tripping over all the gates. 🤦🏻‍♀️

It’s hard but so good. I also recommend the audiobook.

I’d like to put in votes for Monsters We Defy, Shadow
Speaker and the Deep. I’d also add Unkindness of Ghosts to this list.

Hi #Booksky!

I'm looking for reccs for a 10-year old who loves The Restaurant of Lost Recipes so much that I am tired of listening to it. Obviously she likes some adult books, but also she's 10. Ideas?

(Yes, she has also read Grace Lin's Chinese Menu ~6 times and Elliott's Yummy and Tasty.)

📚💙📚
Book cover for The Restaurant of Lost Recipes by Hisashi Kashiwai shows an orange cat peering over the top of a purple table on which rests a plate of abstract sushi with chop sticks and a small vase with cherry blossoms.

Bringing back an evil treacherous villain thought dispatched once a few pages earlier, only to have vengeance visit them a second time is brilliant. Loving my #CurrentRead #Audiobook #Booksky

This sounds like so much fun!

Oh do make time for it. My absolute favorite of her books so far. Actually one of my fave books.

No, this is my first. But will go back for more.

I’m also reading a Booker long list title: Loneliness of Sonia and Sunny. 9 chapters in and it’s more how it feels than beautiful writing. I am loving it.
