It’s the end of an era. I officially have to retire the Smartrip card I bought when I moved to DC in August of 2001. Thank you for your 24 years of service. 🫡

12 more minutes added back to our trip and we haven’t even left New Jersey yet.
ohhleary.bsky.social
Haha, I would be too!
ohhleary.bsky.social
Read his responses. What a clown. On the other hand, Matt McDermott really talks the talk about transit and safe streets!
ohhleary.bsky.social
Barely past Newark and they already added 6 minutes of delay back to their rosy predicted arrival.
ohhleary.bsky.social
Yeah fucking right we’re going to make up 41 minutes of delay en route. Amtrak are the kings of wishful thinking.
ohhleary.bsky.social
Just witnessed the most utterly idiotic thing at Moynihan. I was a rube who waited in line by my track this morning. When they posted the track and opened the escalator to board, a ton of people rushed over and Amtrak employees just let them skip everyone in line.
ohhleary.bsky.social
The train to DC *two trains* after mine is now boarding. And we’re definitely not leaving at 7:15, given that’s in 3 minutes.
ohhleary.bsky.social
It does that in Philly now!
ohhleary.bsky.social
Fucking finally get a text message from Amtrak 20 minutes after our scheduled departure.
ohhleary.bsky.social
It’s 5 minutes from our posted departure and we still haven’t boarded. Meanwhile the train I opted not to take because it would arrive too close to when I need to be in DC is boarding and I can’t rebook because it’s past my scheduled departure time.
ohhleary.bsky.social
Money has very little to do with the fact that Amtrak refuses to adopt international best practices for boarding and accrues delays even on tracks that they own.
ohhleary.bsky.social
Yes, but Amtrak is also poorly-run, and that has a lot more to do with this.
ohhleary.bsky.social
This station is literally the origin of the train, how is it delayed 15 minutes? Amtrak is such a miserable failure.

Thiessen having a good chuckle about his fired liberal colleagues - some of whom he worked with for 15 years - is a good reminder that token conservatives at mainstream news outlets are/were there to destroy them, not to contribute to them.

Unbelievable. Basically anyone who used an unregistered OMNY or Credit Card to tap into the subway in a 21-hour period over the weekend is getting "Card Not Accepted" errors now.

Also, as far as business ventures by Red Sox of that era go, Mike Greenwell's Bat-A-Ball and Family Fun Park was much more successful than Roger Clemens Sports World Wood-Roasted Chicken.

This one stings. Saw him at Fenway a lot in my formative years, and in a couple rehab appearances with the Pawsox in the mid-90s.

Sad Red Sox news to report: Mike Greenwell has died at the age of 62. He had been diagnosed with thyroid cancer earlier. Greenwell was a lifetime .300 hitter over 12 seasons with Boston and was a 2-time All-Star.

Greenwell had been living with medullary thyroid cancer, which prevented him from physically attending public meetings.

The next mayor needs to tackle NYCDOT's inability to complete street projects in a timely manner. A few years ago while visiting Chicago, I watched a street get milled, paved, and marked in a single weekend. The same process on Court Street is taking literal months.

So great to see support from @agounardes.bsky.social in today's district newsletter. This is real leadership.

Court Street Improvement Update

Work is underway on the installation of traffic calming measures, pedestrian improvements, and 1.3 miles of protected bike lanes on Court Street. I am supportive of these changes, which have long been called for by those living and working in the area and were developed in collaboration with that community, as well as first responders and

My office has received a great deal of positive feedback on the work completed so far, however, concerns have also been raised about the construction process, incomplete work, and congestion. While some frustration is inevitable during this type of project, I urge patience while the work itself remains in progress.

My staff performed a site visit this week to inspect what residents flagged as parking spaces in the midst of crosswalks, but which in fact will soon become pedestrian islands. Concerns surrounding delivery access will be addressed with DOT’s installation of metered commercial parking and dedicated curb space all along the corridor. Many other changes, including signal timing adjustments, turning bays, and additional pedestrian safety and visibility improvements are also still to come.

I have requested that DOT increase and improve community outreach to residents, merchants and travelers on Court Street so that everyone knows what to expect and what the completed project will look like. My office will remain in communication with DOT on these issues and others as the project proceeds.

An adjustment period lies ahead as we acclimate to new changes and traffic patterns, but I am confident that the improved configurations will result in a safer, less chaotic environment for everyone on Court Street.

Literally the only part of this project that's been started is "Build New Concrete Extension," and that took over a month of work and there's still a hole in the sidewalk with temporary fencing. I'm sure my neighbors are starting to doubt the "What's Happening Here?" sign outside our building.
ohhleary.bsky.social
This is great, but it also highlights DOT's inability to complete any project in a timely manner. Those temporary markings were on Court St. for WEEKS and it's still incomplete. Meanwhile on my block in Bushwick, still waiting for daylighting that was promised to be completed by "Spring/Summer."

Portland is ... right there. It's a real place. People live in it. People can go look at it. You could call someone there right now.
