Every political development leads to the conclusion that utilitarian and pragmatic choices have to be resisted, and we can only be guided by what is true and just. Every attempt to turn politics into a game played to win will lose for the simple fact that politics is not a game, and has no rules.

Curious: is anyone talking about how a ton of theory books are out of print such that the used book market will likely disappear for anyone who isn't willing to pay more than $40 for a book? Or am I making this up?

* Union was won a while back; retaliation doesn’t make sense. It did however make a credible strike threat this March

A massive attack on several humanities units (Arabic Studies, Judaic Studies, Holocaust Studies, Classics, Religion, German & Scandinavian, Russian/East European/Eurasian Studies) *and* tenure now unfolding at the University of Oregon (a blue state!). Closure of units and faculty layoffs threatened.

the descriptive rebuttal can provide good reasons for rejecting the plausibility and value of the normative-aspirational claim lmao
Every time someone responds to an obviously normative-aspirational claim ("this not who we are", "this is not America", etc) with some I'm-very-radical descriptive rebuttal ("er actually America has always done <similar bad stuff>") an angel dies. Like, no joke, dead. Direct causal result of this.
