managed to get the mechanism for the recording head on the wire recorder wiggled loose enough to move up and down properly, that was really the only mechanical issue I could find. now I have to replace all the capacitors and that might not be so easy

been trying to find videos of people working on wire recorders by the same manufacturer as the one I have and so far the most promising one is a two parter by this guy who performs with a puppet (dog or maybe wolf) instead of appearing onscreen, you gotta respect it
