You are never too important to be nice to people ;)
The point probably was "I like this trope done this way".
But I find the way it is worded confusing.

Counter point:
This sort of is a "if it's not your cup of tea--don't take a sip." situation.
Authors have a fiat to change a trope. To keep the name all it needs to do is stay recognisable.
If you don't like what they did just don't consume. Let others enjoy what they enjoy.

There are a few ways to model skill capabilities:
- describe the difficulty / target number of a check / roll result
- describe the competence level of attribute/skill values
- you either are fully trained in a skill and receive a static bonus or not

Am I missing something?

I don't have much to show yet, but i like the Conflict Resolution Mechanic I have so far.
tl;dr draw playing cards = attribute + skill. count black cards. this is the amount of progress you've made.
Right now I'm figuring out if i want to describe point amounts on character sheet or check results.

When you hear of a billionaire losing money on a pricey hobby or side business — whether it's a race horse or a newspaper — remember that those losses can actually create huge write-offs that let the ultrarich get away with paying little or no income tax.

This photo made me understand class in America in a way that I was unable to process before seeing it. The rich enjoy class solidarity on a level that is unimaginable to most people.

Sadly I hear a lot of good design from D&D 4th edition.
Personally the most fun I ever had was in Mage: The Ascension from White Wolf.
Mixing the spheres and always inventing new uses for magic is GOAT.
It is the best as long as you play it without other books from the series.
