“Even to build 83 units has taken so much struggle. That should not be so hard. This is an example of the scale of progress that was held up… We want to build as much as possible across this city, for those who call this city home and those who would love to.” @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social
We’re here in the Bronx alongside @NYCMayor and more to celebrate the resumption of the Just Home project, which will create 70 affordable homes with services for formerly-incarcerated New Yorkers.

This long-overdue project is an act of compassion for our fellow New Yorkers.

Really great that Mayor Mamdani is rightly tackling regulatory barriers to housing
You probably don't know what SEQRA is - but you should know that it's slowing down the housing that we need. Deputy Mayor Leila Bozorg is here to explain why reforming it is key to cutting red tape and building more housing.

@governor.ny.gov calls to reform SEQRA environmental reviews: “Right now they slow down the very projects that help us fight climate change, create housing, and strengthen our communities.”

It’s time to end those delays and deliver for New Yorkers.

Great to see the state is looking to take big steps toward making it easier to build in New York. Thank you to people like @governor.ny.gov and @srachelmay.bsky.social for pushing for things like this

When projects spend 5 years being delayed by paperwork, people lose faith in government.

This is about restoring faith that government can do big things.

When the law passed in 1975, SEQRA rightly targeted dirty coal power plants and highways that bulldozed through neighborhoods.

But today, it's being used to block the solutions to our climate crisis: dense, transit-oriented housing, clean energy, and clean water infrastructure.

The solution to high housing prices is to build more homes.

This will only make things worse.
An EO that lets people tap their retirement savings to buy a home isn't about affordability. It does nothing to actual prices; it just encourages homebuyers to mortgage their futures so they can cover the currently inflated cost of a home. www.politico.com/news/2026/01...

Garodnick led the "City of Yes" rezoning and five neighborhood rezonings in his tenure. Mamdani will appoint a new head planner

Between 2010 and 2022, Jersey City built 26,000 new homes, expanding their housing stock by 24%.

If NYC built housing at the same rate, that would mean over 900,000 new homes. That's the scale of action necessary to end our housing shortage.

Since 2010, Jersey City has been building 4x as much housing as NYC.

The result? Rents stopped rising—and now they may be falling.

New York City could do the same, says
