Walking is a right; driving is a privilege. Not the other way around.

Defund, abolish, prosecute.

Oh, and I RT ducks.

Maybe you see my #PlowSidewalksToo hashtag and think, "Yeah, sure, sounds great but it would require a massive tax increase and expansion of the public payroll and no one is going to willingly sign on for that. Real shame, though."

So: a thread. 🧵

If you're giving a talk (webinar, workshop), practice it by yourself with a live transcription app running. You may not be aware that you drop an Um or two into every sentence. But your audience is. And we hate it.

Chuckling at the people in the U.S. who consistently shit on people who live in "red" states... Well according to others in the world, the entire US is now a "red" state. Not so easy to overthrow authoritarians, is it?

Unlike several other languages, English has a splendid, ungendered pronoun for inanimate objects: it. Which is why it makes me cranky that we still insist on gendering nations and vessels as female.

Have y’all seen other crafters/hobbyists/artists/makers putting out into anti-ICE projects? I’ve seen nail art, knitting and crochet. Would love to see more of what folks are getting up to, aesthetically.

As you scroll through memes honoring MLK, today is a good day to remember that a lot of leaders believe that the only appropriate place to hold a protest is in the past.

Hat tip to @derringerpax.bsky.social, who made my quote into a woodcut in 2024.

If you think that bike lines that are (supposedly) unused most of the time are a waste of taxpayer dollars, wait til you hear about football stadiums
You know the caption: "I don't know why we keep spending tax dollars on car lanes that just sit empty!"

Everyone who gives a talk should #StealThisIdea. Add it to your land acknowledgements. Event planning is invisible labor done mostly by women.
Nikole Hannah-Jones just opened her speech at the MLK breakfast acknowledging the hard work of the catering and housekeeping staff to make the room lovely for everyone at the event.

New York State is considering mandatory "Intelligent Speed Assistance" for repeat super speeders. Doug Ford should think about this for every car in Ontario- no need for cameras, no cash grab, and it stops speeding before it occurs. How could he object to that?
"Intelligent Speed Assistance" may become mandatory for speeding New Yorkers
Meanwhile, in Ontario, Canada, tear down those cameras and go faster!

The worst politicians in America are about to quote Martin Luther King Jr.

You can’t quote “I have a dream” on MLK Day then legislate against that dream every other day of the year.

As actual “jackbooted government thugs” wage war on an American city, the people who spent decades warning about government tyranny aren’t just silent. They’re stoked.

What Happened to the "Don't Tread On Me" Conservatives?
Guess what, they never cared about individual rights or had a problem with state violence. It just depends on who's on the receiving end.

Kind of amazing this online interactive version of Marcel Duchamp's Bicycle Wheel, first posted in 2008, is still usable. Go to the link & use your cursor to spin the wheel; Duchamp said that "To see that wheel turning was very soothing...I enjoyed looking at it [like] flames dancing in a fireplace"

Opposition isn’t about polite press releases and sad cable hits. It’s about using every procedural tool available to slow, expose, and force accountability.

You know all those participation trophies your kids have hundreds of? The ones gathering dust on shelves or sitting in storage until your kid grows up and tells you to toss them?

I say we start a campaign to send them to the White House for His Magasty.
