I'd say that was a good decision.
TRIVIA: Controversial due to subject matter and adult language, this film - along with ‘Something Wicked This Way Comes’ (horror elements), ‘Tex’ and ‘Never Cry Wolf’ (male nudity) - led to the creation of Touchstone Pictures, a Disney film division designed to release more mature films. (IMDB) 🖤

Cutting Edge and the Bring It On series are up there with American Pie for number of sequels you don't expect.
I never knew until very recently how many films were in the Cutting Edge franchise.

After watching all those films, I still don't know who Vincent Spano is or how it took doing Out of Touchstone to find out he existed.
Lets talk about the killer little Touchstone/Hollywood Pictures run that Vincent Spano had here.

Only 1 of the credited cast is still alive. It's become a Cemetery Club.
A curious outlier in Bill Duke's directorial filmography, this comedy about a trio of friends who all become widows in short succession is not casual with its message about grief. But the chemistry between the three leads gives the film wings of levity and charm to rise above the dour premise.

This episode of Out of Touchstone, we take a break from the 1996 Touchstone slate and check out some #Olympic themed films. It's called, trying to cash in on popular trends. #Milan #GoForTheGold. youtu.be/8ZM6EWV7t0w?...

Hopefully this becomes either a weekly show or quarterly special. Only thing that felt off was Kermit's voice but maybe he finally hit puberty.

It's available to stream on the CW network. And it features the Tragically Hip. That's so unusual for a Canadian production.
It's a very Canadian comedy called Men With Brooms (turns out there was a shortlived TV series too that I didn't know about)

I'm curious to see an original cut or script to see what the initial vision was. Random connection. I started watching Downhill Racer, a Robert Redford film about the Olympics. It was written by James Salter who wrote the short story that inspired Boys. I had never heard of him until last week.
I had never heard of this film! As you mentioned, the studio interference is likely the problem because the premise seems decent enough, although in some ways it feels like a throwback to an 80s film.

Maybe they need to bring back tug of war. If it was still the late 90s, we could have X-Treme Tug of War with a pit of piranhas the losers fall into.
This made me realize that I don’t typically watch films about the competitions. More about things occurring during the Olympics like attacks. I do like The Fire Inside, I Tonya, and September 5.

I think they should make a movie about tug of war even though it was discontinued.

I didn't know there were movies about curling. I have to find them and watch them. And read up on the broom design blow up.
Favourite Olympic movie is Cutting Edge, second is Cool Runnings

For winter sports, I mean curling has already had a movie but that seems like a sport full of stories. Maybe they could dramatise the recent broom design blow up, Moneyball style 😆

With the Olympics starting this week, what are some of your favorite Olympic movies? What Olympic sport do you think deserves a movie?

This year's Royal Rumble was kinda flat for me. If you watched, what did you think? I always remind myself that pro wrestling is a never-ending story, so don't get too caught up in the moment.

Shocking news about the passing of Catherine O'Hara. She was part of four Touchstone Pictures: Dick Tracy, Betsy's Wedding, A Simple Twist of Fate and the voice of Sally in The Nightmare Before Christmas. #RIP

Can Sharon Stone continue her trajectory of serious actress after Casino? Can Rob Morrow shake the stigma of TV actor? Can death row be sexy? That last question maybe doesn't apply. In this episode of Out of Touchstone we examine the legal drama Last Dance. youtu.be/vvkAflLPtvQ?...

For me, the fact Sharon's Stone character is guilty of a double murder, didn't exactly make me sympathetic to her. There really wasn't a reason to root for Rob Morrow. Just glad after the next episode, Touchstone starts to release better films.
I remember the years of lawyer films! 😑

I remember this trailer but never saw it. That tracks given the dismal box office. 😬

Releasing this so soon after Diabolique probably hurt as well.

This week's Touchstone flashback is the 1996 film Two Much. What's better than 1 Antonio Banderas? 2 Antonio Banderases! It's like The Parent Trap only different. (Pretty sure that was the pitch). youtu.be/8s9XF-395nM?... #90sFilm #Twins

I had never seen it until working on the episode. Stick with Twins. Arnie and DeVito are more believable siblings.
I had never heard of this film before. Even though I knew he was in a relationship with Melanie I guess I never was curious to know how they met. 😄

This Mexican film made in 1976 about the events. Alive has better production values and effects but there are some scenes in Survive that are more intense and gives a better (read: more intense) sense of what the survivors went through. youtu.be/Z4j0Qq_4qrU?...
