Tonight's 📽 Cat People (1942, dir. Jacques Tourneur), a film that's barely subtextual about a fear of unleashed sexual desire, the 'evil' inside. Irena keeps herself away from people, so that she does not hurt them. But then she falls in love... Beautifully written, by a gay man, DeWitt Bodeen.

Back on RuneScape after a 15 year or so absence. Being reminded of how much fun this game is! Addictive as hell.

An all time classic from the Italian neo-realists. Definitely a favourite of mine and if you love movies, probably a favourite of yours too.

Got my weekend viewing lined up: three from the to-watch pile, one new arrival. One I've seen before, one came recommended by a friend, two were completely blind buys.

Big thank you to everyone who helped me decide on this week's Blu-ray order. As ever I have a budget of £50. Thanks to a lucky eBay score this lot comes in at £49. Both listed as condition: new.

For my next, weekly, Blu-ray order, I must choose between these. 🤔

Molly Ringwald's comfort movies are Eric Rohmer's Tales of Four Seasons. They are mine too! Totally a Rohmer stan.

Fun fact Jules Dassin fled McCartyism to France (and later Greece) where his son stayed and and built an extremely successful career as a singer. Maybe his most famous song being "les champs Elysées", definitely his most famous in English speaking country.
Continuing my run through the gritty noir of Jules Dassin. #NowWatching Rififi.

Thanks, @onthelimelight.bsky.social friends!

UK physical media gang, if you're not aware, Limelight stock not only our releases but lots of other great boutique labels too - so you can get everything in one place. Like a UK equivalent of Diabolik.

Rewatching MATEWAN and you want to talk about the art of casting? You'd think that Chris Cooper, Mary McDonnell, Bob Gunton and Gordon Clapp had been acting in movies for a decade, but they were all basically newcomers in 1987. Keven Tighe had mostly only done TV. Did I mention Will freakin' Oldham?

Well, fancy that! In this scene from Rififi, a group of would-be jewel thieves meet in café adjacent to their target: Mappin & Webb's jeweller. Except, there is no café across from there! The scene was achieved using a table and false window—set up in the street. The magic of cinema, eh! #Filmsky

My ⭐️⭐️⭐️ review of THE RACKET boxd.it/cMWfD7

Best Picture nom at very 1st Academy Awards, this good cop vs unscrupulous crime boss epic starts strong.

Expanive staging & good action soon give way to a talkie & unconvincing final act, driven by coincidence & happenstance. Still kinda fun.
