the output will asymptotically approach all possible syntactically correct outputs that can be pieced together from the training set. Including deleting databases if you connect the LLM to a database management console, or suffocating executives if connected to environmental controls. See Therac-25.

the level of that "behaviour" found in the training data. One of the reasons curating training data is so important. This is covered in the paragraphs under "Bad Behaviour". It is all just syntax correlation with some randomness thrown in. Because of the randomness if you run a scenario repeatedly

Unfortunately by anthropomorphizing the output the language of the article does not support a good understanding of LLMs. An LLM generates symbols that are statistically likely given the training data and the prompts (user and system). "Scheming behaviour" in output will statistically approach ...

You asked. My thoughts on the Qatar expansion of Mountain Home Air Base.

Which is a design choice. Any set of prompts is limited to how much it can modify the output of the underlying model. To achieve what I believe you want, you would need a model trained almost exclusively on the writings of the kind of reporters you wish it to emulate.

One of the most revealing aspects of this output is that after all your careful training, rather than demonstrating the mastery of that training while describing it, the AI reverted to the design mode of middle school student who just discovered a thesaurus.

In no uncertain terms, Ms Proudfoot in today’s @theglobeandmail.com justly calls out petulant piffleswipe Pierre Poilievre for the lies he tells about who’s at fault for the challenges 🇨🇦Canada faces.

In fact I just got my renewal notice for my CLion subscription, and since: a) they don’t provide a LLM/GenAI free version (expecting us to turn it off); and b) I no longer code commercially; I’ll prob downgrade to the community version. I’ld rather not pay to fight with an LLM.

Having mentored intern/co-op programmers, developed AI code and survived to the era when “you’ll take GenAI with that and like it” supplanted “would you like fries with that?” I will always prefer to supervise other humans producing code. They at least have a chance of becoming a better dev.

* He was also raising domestic ferrets by very cruel methods (I won’t get into) and was scared sh*tless of them too. We rescued and rehabilitated the ferrets.

Yes, the story of Robert Pickton comes to mind.

Also met an entrepreneur ”farmer” who thought there were $ in raising boars for hunting businesses inTexas. He was correctly scared sh*tless of them bc animal husbandry not his strength*. I put them in the column with bears. Respect, not trust.

One thing this timeline has done for me is helped me decide what superpower I would like if I had the choice. I would like the ability, at will, to cause a medicine ball to appear at an arbitrary point in spacetime with an arbitrary momentum.

This seems like a mistake to me. Not just removing aircraft from an air combat unit, but drawing down A-10s. I've never been infantry but I imagine nothing inspires confidence of a foot soldier like a close air support platform that can almost crawl in the foxhole and whisper "I got this".

And I thought that you were using the "open with a surprise" to trigger longer memory of your post.

I feel like it's worth expanding on this a little bit:

Women and other female-identified folks have to be *extremely* buttoned-up and serious and know everything in our area of expertise forward and backwards, to get even a morsel of being taken seriously.

I feel like every third TechCrunch article talks about vibe-coding these days, and I would like to stay up to date with the news in my professional field but so help me god I cannot hear or read about vibe-coding one more time

hence, the magic of mute words

"Don't you have Windows at work?."

"Yes, but I'm not allowed to do anything other than use consumer apps."

"You don't know that much about computers do you?"

"Sadly, that is correct."

I had the other problem:
"You know a lot about computers can you help me fix my laptop?"

"Probably not. Is it running Linux, Unix, SunOS, Dec System 10, Folklore or Unicos Cray?"

"No, it's Windows something."

"Then no I can't help."

As far as loosing your 2FA keys, the usual setup is to use a QRCode which can be printed and stored in a secure place up to a bank safe deposit box, or you can use one of the good secure and audited password managers that encrypts everything locally and also manage 2FA keys.

Unfortunately some sites are moving away from TOTP (Time Based One Time Pad) to email and SMS 2nd factor, probably bc it is easier for most people to use. I don't consider either secure so won't use them for sites where I have a choice, and won't use sites that only offer SMS/Email 2FA personally.

I was thinking of adding an Apple Watch to my tech. I did have a Fitbit when they came out. Now I'm wondering if I'm over committed to Apple tech. It isn't like I don't have some kick-ass watches now.
