The logic of big investment in a new Business School to bring in more students hasn't been applied to underfunded Arts programmes. Not just this uni, though. Others nationwide are ignoring the huge creative industry sector while chasing STEM & business. #academicsky

It's a bit hard to fathom why Trump thinks that the guy sending troops and paramilitary mercenaries to US cities should get a peace prize.

Yesterday I met an academic who inadvertently made me feel like a rusty machete meeting a laser scalpel. She's quite an inspiration actually.

Just finished #reading Amor Towles' excellent 'A Gentleman in Moscow'.
It combines a kind of aristocratic nostalgia with a capacity for adaptation and acceptance, all set against a muted backdrop of fury and paranoia in post-Revolution Russia. #booksky

I keep getting 'thank you for your loyalty' offers from a company after I bought from them online. Mate, I just wanted some shirts, I haven't joined a bleedin' cult. #marketing

Apparently an animated discussion about a subject area in common with a randomly met academic from another university can look 'a bit like flirting'.
But no,that's a different part of the brain.

Chatting with a chap yesterday, and out of the blue he looked up at the sky and said "They're not real clouds. Look at those chemtrails." How do such delusional people walk among us?

A few weeks into #Trump 2.0, & it gets worse each day. Time now for #UK & #EU to realise there is nothing good coming from the US, and to establish our own leadership in defence, research, global foreign aid and academia. Once the US Govt rediscovers their values we can remake our relationship.

The US has led in academic research for a long time. This is an opportunity for academics in non-dictatorships to step up and provide leadership while American institutions are being gutted and suborned.

Very sad to hear of Tony Slattery's death. He was an engaging actor with brilliant timing. I have been enjoying his quirky character in reruns of Kingdom, which reunited him with Stephen Fry.

Ramping up external non-issues into huge problems by #Trump & #Musk, directly threatening the leadership of democratic nations, raising the spectre of a supposed friendly nation launching military attacks on allies... What are they trying to distract American voters from seeing?

OK, #academicsky, heading into a new semester, new students on one of my regular modules: If the darlings don't show up even to the orientation lecture, don't log in to the VLE and other learning and information resources, how do I 'engage' them? This was my question to management last year.

UK's worst export, Nigel #Farage, is finding out that deviating from the #Musk thought-pathway seriously annoys the new shadow president. Musk's free speech agenda is paper thin when it comes to his minions daring to disagree with him.
