You gotta love this photo. It's not AI. It's real. And near everyone on the planet outside of Canada will have no idea what's going on, why, or what it means. The day before, Carney was Davos Man, who had seized the world's attention. Now this. It looks like a hallucination.

For the first time in history, the state of Virginia has a female Governor and right after being sworn in today Governor Abigail Spanberger’s first official act was to end cooperation between ICE-Gestapo and Virginia State Police. More of this. 💙👊👏

Nativity for December 22: I bought this sweet wall hanging at the Barcelona Cathedral Christmas Market a couple of weeks ago. “All is calm” may be aspirational, but it’s worth aspiring to. May this be a day of calm in your life as we draw near the birth of our savior.

Nativity for December 15: this lovely 3" Mary and Jesus came from visit to Granada Cathedral a couple of years ago. (Joseph went out for snacks.) Made of polished resin, she fits perfectly in my little typesetting box display.

I’m increasingly annoyed with people’s cynicism about Marjorie Taylor Greene’s pivoting as she has. Lauren Boehbert, too. Who cares if they’re genuine or not? Every MAGA cultist who stands up to Trump about anything has value, no matter their motives or veracity.

To understand what was at stake here: in VA, the AG gets to appoint university counsel. From Jim Ryan’s forced resignation to the (mercifully) reject “Compact” to the odious and bizarre “settlement,” UVA has been hamstrung by counsel chosen by the state’s GOP administration. That’s about to change.

Tonight, was another reminder: there is no single mold for a Democratic winner.

Progressives won. Moderates won. Rural, suburban, urban —they all won. Black, White, Latino, AAPI — they all won. We won in the East, South, Midwest and West. Victories in races from City Council to Governor.
