Instead of security bankrupt Age Verification ID laws I need people to start campaigning for apps to implement required security training of red flags for scams, grooming, phishing, etc. lmao Make people have to take modules like we do for work, at least they'll be forced to know what not to do then

made a couple of book recommendations on tumblr on a post i saw about the importance of Play, and now i'm relistening to vivian paley's radio interviews and getting a little emotional about these simple universal truths lol
I'd like to recommend the works of Vivian Paley to anyone who this post resonates with! she was a teacher and child development researcher whose instincts about child psychology were ahead of her time (she was doing a lot of this work in the 1950s and 60s), and saw Play as a tool for learning, social development, storytelling, and many other aspects of early development. It's not exactly the type of literature I think you may be looking for, OP, but I think her books are incredibly interesting and tap into a facet of what you're looking for. the two books of hers I've read are called You Can't Say You Can't Play (1993) and The Boy Who Would Be A Helicopter (1991), but this post was a great reminder for me to read more of hers. She has been on the radio to read excerpts and create reenactions from the above texts, which you can listen to here and here. enjoy! Vivian Paley: So many of the stories that young children tell have to do with an animal or a little girl or boy being lonely, and walking in the woods, and finding someone to play with. It is the universal, most successful story. And if you have a kindergarten class, or a preschool class, or a first grade class, and-- although this would never happen-- but let's say, all 24 children told this story. There was a lonely deer. He had no one to play with. And then a cougar came up and said, I'll be your friend. Next story. There was a lonely boy. He had no one to play with. And on and on. Not one child in the class would say, what, again? Haven't we had enough of that already? No. They would say, more. More. Tell us again that when you're lonely, someone's going to come up and say, I'll play with you.
