Very excited to see you to discuss your mega interesting book!

Unironically very close to what I'm currently experiencing on the train 😂😂😂

Grumpy old man view of the day: people listening to music on public transport should be forced to wear headphones. When did this stop being a thing??

I'm working on a starter pack... its focus is Information Warfare, Covert Ops and Propaganda... trying to fill gaps on existing lists of 'disinfo' experts and bring in a wider sweep of experts on covert ops & information warfare, broadly defined. go.bsky.app/7NTCqKZ

New Element in the Philosophy of Biology series—free to download until October 6! Walter Veit examines the role of models in evolutionary biology: their types, testability, and interrelations 👇📕 www.cambridge.org/core/element... #philsci #HPBio #evobio
Book cover of “Modelling Evolution” by Walter Veit, in the Cambridge Elements: The Philosophy of Biology series. Against a black background, the title is surrounded by Ernst Haeckel’s illustrations of marine organisms—radial, symmetrical forms in vivid blues, oranges, reds, and greens.

Depolarization is not "a scalable solution for reducing societal-level conflict.... achieving lasting depolarization will likely require....moving beyond individual-level treatments to address the elite behaviors and structural incentives that fuel partisan conflict" www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

Happy Monday, bluesky. Here's the morning view from my balcony.
Morning view in Salzburg. Mountains appearing through the clouds.

A good weekend of meeting friends in Munich, going to Rupertikirtag in Salzburg, finishing a book on friendship, and cycling at night time as fast as my wee legs would go. Looking forward to a chill week of <checks calendar> a conference on privacy! Win!

Great answers. Someone else said they'd least like Nietzsche as a friend too, but maybe being friends with Ecce Homo stage Nietzsche could be fun. 'Why I am such a great friend' could be another chapter 😂

This is totally fair... I just think I don't want it to be an open question as to whether he'd admit to an axe murderer that I was in his house.

Tonight, following the ethics reading group, I asked a bunch of philosophers which historical philosopher they'd most and least like to befriend. I chose Hume for 'most', and oscilated between Kant, Wittgenstein and Schopenhauer for 'least'. What about the rest of you? #philsky #philosophy

One of the joys of having an office directly next to Salzburg's Cathedral is I get to hear opera singers blast out Ave Maria almost constantly. Apparently tourists love it. It is starting to lose its appeal for me, tbh. I guess that'll happen after listening to it almost non-stop daily...

Just got a copy of Diane Jeske's 'Friendship and Social Media'. So far it's an incredible work, both rigorous and fascinating. I wish I were her friend. #philosophy #philsky

A new and probably final blurb for the book, from Havi Carel: "Razor sharp and incisive, this book scrutinises a new philosophical field: epistemic injustice. A much-needed analysis carried out with acuity and sensitivity."

Back in Salzburg, cuddling with Fellini, and listening to the most outrageous Herbie Hancock album (it's fantastic). Win.

I think the Japanese ink is doing the work here.

I have read not one, but two (2!), papers this week in which the authors said in passing that happiness was an emotion. I really don't get why people think this, but I guess the problem is me. #philsky #philosophy

Went to the Sophia conference in Salzburg and heard a number of super talks. I'll have a day's break before heading off to GAP in Düsseldorf where it'll be my turn to present. Super excited. Hopefully I'll see some bluesky people there! #philosophy #philsky

Philosophers, this is your moment: “Meta Ethics” (two words) is trending on Bluesky. We are one step away from making “metaethics” mainstream.

Salzburg views continue to be cartoonishly idyllic
View of the Salzach with a view of the Festung in the background. View of the Salzach with a beautiful cloudy sky above it.
