Polling musicians:

Which are the best sheet music publishers, and what makes them the best?

Interested in both your personal opinions and what you were told in school or as a working musician.

Day 1 of @icchamberchoir.bsky.social auditions for 25-26, and someone sang some Pelham Humfrey as their audition piece, which made my day.

Presumably the Archbishop is announced on Friday morning so they can go straight on Desert Island Discs and pick their 8 favourite hymns

Some good news.

London is meeting legal limits for toxic NO2 pollution for the first time – almost 200 years earlier than predicted – following the Mayor’s "world leading air pollution policies," City Hall announces.

The Ultra Low Emissions Zone - and similar policies - really do work.

In a quiet reading room at the British Library, and someone’s laptop suddenly burst out with *ai voice* “here are several polished re-writes of your”

The Boring Fund will be open for applications in November.

If your small UK charity needs (up to) £200 to cover something boring like insurance or web hosting, take a look.

They welcome donations too.
The Boring Fund - Open Collective
We support small non-profit organisations (UK) by only funding the really boring (but essential) stuff like insurance, accountancy or admin

Things only a comedian/producer would post: I AM LOOKING FOR A TRUMPETER IN BRISTOL AVAILABLE THIS WEEK.

Long shot, but let me know. I will not block joke answers as some people do but I also won't laugh at them. I *might* roll my eyes indulgently.

Ha no I like that it’s out of date!

Decided to stop work early and focus on cooking my son’s dinner. No great loss to academia today!

Excitingly it is already out of date (a historical artefact!)

In personal news, I have finally been allowed to put up the full-size DC metro map I bought as a souvenir on moving back to London in 2021. Or as my wife would describe it: “the worst possession anyone has ever bought”.

Whatever I hoped for from this Labour government, it was definitely not forced volunteering

Irrelevant to the wider world, I know, but the British Library is still a long way from recovering from the cyber attack in October '23. Access to books still much more complicated and unpredictable than it was pre attack. Amazing how long it takes to recover from something like this.

Just asked someone if they're free for a concert on March 14th 2207. It's been that kind of morning.

Every time I come across this photo it completely stops me in my tracks. Crude oil supertanker Esso Hibernia under construction at Swan Hunter shipyard, Wallsend, during 1970. The scale and spectacle of this thing is incomprehensible. (📸 Harriet Berney)
Black and white photo looking down a street of terraced brick houses. Several cars line each side of the street, with many people gathered at the far end. Beyond this the bow of a large oil tanker can be seen, towering above the end of the street and the rows of houses.

This day my oaths for drinking of wine and going to plays are out, and so I do resolve to take a liberty today, and then to fall to them again.

Anyone recognise this place? Warner Gothard had one of his studios in Wakefield, so that may be a red-herring. Reverse image search brings up some VERY similar places, but nothing quite matches the windows/adornments.
