...and here are a couple of cute cats from I am Dead who want you to click on it:
A tabby cat with a white tummy sits on a bin looking down at a black cat sitting on the ground. They are hanging around the back of the kipper smoking shack in Shelmerston, which is a location in the videogame I am Dead.

My current hobby is doing milestone photos with my daughter but using copies of Final Fantasy games because I'm a knob.
My daughter in a very fetching pair of dungarees with cacti on it lying next to Final Fantasy 7 and various other pieces of Final Fantasy 7 media. My daughter lying on a blanket next to two copies of Final Fantasy 6 (one for Playstation and one for the SNES). She is next to a plush cactuar and is semi posed like one. My daughter once again lying on a blanket in a nice shirt with bears on, this time she is next to a copy of Final Fantasy V for the SNES. There is a plush tonberry and a plush chocobo next to her. My daughter in a onesie covered in pink elephants lying next to 4 copies of Final Fantasy IV, two of which are for the Playstation 1, one for the Nintendo DS and one for the Playstation 4.

Also I want to know how on earth his book was going to get published, like surely all the letters were owned by the company he worked for or the people who commissioned them.

Spike Jonze’s Her really was quite eerie in how it predicted that everyone would look stupid wearing airpods etc.

There is always some part of my brain thinking about this article and the logistics of the Moomin costume.

I'm too fucking tired to debunk every stupid thing that Ryan Murphy said about Christine Jorgensen or how the public response to Ed Gein was catastrophic to the the perception of trans people so I'll just point to my book. We covered all of it.

It’s clear that parental leave has given me too much time to spend on ebay whilst looking after a sleeping baby.

Filling in some gaps in my Ken Russell knowledge.
4 DVDs of films by Ken Russell on my sofa. They are The Rainbow, Mahler, French Dressing and Lisztomania.

As well as a terrifying extension of repressive state power, it's striking how intellectually dead this is. "You can have freedoms, but only when and if we say so." Ludicrous. We live in an era as stupid as it is evil, governed by moral and intellectual minnows as vapid as they are depraved.

just because you have a freedom "doesn't mean you have to use it at every moment of every day"

Just roll that sentence around your mental palate and taste the underlying logic
Laura Kuenssberg asks if it is a "dark step" to limit the fundamental right to protest?
Mahmood answers that just because you have a freedom "doesn't mean you have to use it at every moment of every day".
Under her new plans people will still have the right to protest, Mahmood adds.

Turning heads doing the big shop at Sainsburys as I pull my Nectar card out of this.
A lady in a blue dress holding a bunch of red grapes that is actually a resin clutch bag with a gold effect handle.

Instagram keeps advertising me a £500 clutch bag shaped like a bunch of grapes.

Not gonna lie it keeps getting more tempting.

Trying to decide if it’s weird to email someone for more info about a jumper they wore in 2002.

Might promise to buy some seeds from him in exchange for the info.

Big into Michael Michaud’s lovely looking jumper in this episode of River Cottage Forever from 2002.
A picture of my living room TV with River Cottage Forever on the screen.

Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall is talking to Michael Michaud who is wearing a lovely looking red jumper. They are discussing chilis and Michael is saying “I’m not selling vegetables. I’m selling a lifestyle. Simple as that.”

Just call it The History Of X Genre In Y Location, specificity is your friend as well, nothing can be both general and definitive most of the time unless you are shit hot and most people are not shit hot.
patrickashe.bsky.social
Too many people want to be historians, not enough people want to learn how to be a historian.
patrickashe.bsky.social
Writing a book that claims to be a definitive history of a genre of videogames that is so indelibly tied to a specific region of the world but not writing about the ones that didn’t get localised to where you live is buck wild.

Just write a different book mate.
