If the agreement ends the immediate violence, and lets hostages and prisoners return to their families, we should all welcome it.

But it says nothing about the long term solution, or justice for Palestine. The occupation must end, and war criminals must face justice.

Continuing this work is the way to make progress in cutting drug deaths, reducing harm, and giving people the support they need, on their own terms. This Bill would undermine that, and that’s why I hope Parliament will vote No this evening.
patrickharvie.bsky.social
Scotland is investing to expand the services that are needed, and innovating with new provision like the safer consumption facility in Glasgow. We also need reform of the Misuse of Drugs Act, which is wildly out of date and which makes providing services harder.
patrickharvie.bsky.social
Many organisations with deep expertise in addiction services, including some led by people with their own lived experience, have raised serious concerns that this Bill is the wrong answer, and could even make things worse, increasing harm and the risk of relapse.
patrickharvie.bsky.social
The Bill could create a legal risk for service providers, meaning money ends up being spent on lawyers instead of providing support. And that’s at a time when everyone agrees that we should be investing in expanding the services themselves.
patrickharvie.bsky.social
Some of the language in the Bill reinforces stigma, and the way it would work could actually prevent people from getting the support they need - like the requirement for an in-person clinical diagnosis of addiction.
patrickharvie.bsky.social
There’s a real risk that this Bill would see resources shift away from other services which work well to reduce harm and prevent deaths.
patrickharvie.bsky.social
I want to set out the serious problems with it, and why the Green MSPs will be voting No.

‘Recovery’ means different things to different people. The Bill places heavy emphasis on abstinence based approaches - which work for some people but not for everyone.
patrickharvie.bsky.social
This afternoon MSPs will decide whether to support a Bill called ‘Right to Addiction Recovery’. The title sounds like a good thing, and we all know that Scotland has appallingly high numbers of drug related deaths. So why is this Bill the wrong answer? 🧵

Dad’s books are full of empathy, common sense, and a healthy suspicion of the powerful. But at its heart his work is also about how systems keep people poor while pretending it’s their own fault. So I hope Kemi’s taking notes as well as reading the jokes.

Badenoch: "I make sure that when I announce something I think about how it is going to impact people."

Badenoch is asked where the 750,000 people she proposes to deport will go.

Badenoch: "I'm tired of us asking all of these irrelevant questions ..."

The offensive bit of Fraser's daft tweet wasn't the mention of Greens, it was when he singled out a religion. If you think that was somehow just fine, try swapping 'Bhuddists' for Jews, Hindus or Sikhs and rethink.

Thankfully, barrel-scraping bigotry and dog-whistles won't save Murdo's dying party.

This was then scrapped citing the Manchester synagogue attack. Polanski is both Jewish and from Manchester

Labour’s policies risk creating a society where everyone must prove who they are simply to go about their daily lives.

Is this really the future we want?
