Meet Agatho, the Frankish Huscarl from the Rebellion trilogy. Brutal warrior, deadly with a throwing axe (can split a running man's skull at 30 paces), but rubbish at riding horses.

#OnThisDay Duke William of Normandy lands at Pevensey with 100s of ships. Chose it due to Roman fort (Anderitum) & the wide bay.
As a kid, I had the ladybird book; it showed him tripping on the beach & saying how he had seized England in both hands #cojones

#OnThisDay 1066: Harold defeats the Norse at Stamford Bridge. They'd come in 300 ships, but went home in 24. Hardrada & brother, Tostig, both slain
The lone Viking on the bridge? A much later addition to the ASC with echoes of antiquity. Cool story though

9th Sept: today we commemorate/celebrate (delete as applicable) the death of #kingwilliam in 1087.
Fun fact: when he was buried in Caen, his already rotund body was so bloated/decomposed that it burst when they tried to force it into a too small coffin #history #medieval #puke

Something of a milestone this week: #Mortgage finally paid off!
I'm so good at #history, i can remember taking out the 1st one in 1991 in North Harrow. Relocating with work 4 years later meant we had to sell at a loss! Can't be many that lost money moving away from London! 🤣
