As I have quite a few new followers I thought an intro post would be in order.

I'm an amateur photographer in NE England. I started this hobby 2 years ago so I'm still fairly new to it.

This was my first decent photo taken at Embleton Bay in Jan 2023.

I mainly post photos on this account.
A photo of a beach with sand dunes behind. In the foreground dune grasses are caught in sunlight as the sun breaks through cloud to the right of the frame. In the distance a ruined castle stands on top of a small hill. The sky is cloudy.

That arch is a bit nerve-wracking in a van never mind a bus.

It’s a Zafira and I bet he’s not had the recall fix as he doesn’t trust letters from the government.

Now when it does go up in flames, who will he blame, EVs, the Government or vaccines?

A slightly misty morning on Ullswater, two boats float on the calm water with the sun shining in from the right of the photo. Mist hangs on the water in the shadow of trees that line the bank of the lake.

Well Storm Amy was a bit of a disappointment, hardly any waves to speak of ☹️

Roker Lighthouse 📷

It's been a windy day here, but the winds seem to have eased now. Tomorrow we'll be heading to the coast. Hopefully some big waves at high tide, this was last year's storm

I think I will photograph this oak at every visit to the Brathay. These were just over a year apart.
Image is of the lower branches of an oak tree backlit by the sun breaking through the morning mist. The tones range from warm yellows to cool blues Image of lower branches of an oak tree backlit by the rising sun on a cold, frozen morning. Tones are cool blues

A lighthouse stands behind a foreground of grasses blowing in the wind. The sky darkens towards the horizon as a summer thundercloud approaches from behind the lighthouse.

Buachaille Etive Mòr and the River Coupall

A pyramid mountain stands on the horizon. Gaps in the cloud break allowing sunlight to fall on the foreground lighting up a river passing over rocks. The lonely lighthouse

A white painted lighthouse stands on the horizon surrounded by turquoise waters and white waves. Towards the shore a reflection of the lighthouse can be seen in the wet sand. A lone piece of seaweed and a few stones are the only features on empty golden sands. Sunrise at Roker

A photo of a stone lighthouse just before sunrise. A stone pier curves round towards the horizon. At its end is the red and white lighthouse. The sea is a deep blue which contrasts against the orange and yellow sky on the horizon. A night angler can be seen on the pier wearing bright green overalls. Sunset at the Angel

A iron statue of a figure with airplane style wings stands centre frame with dramatic sunset as its backdrop.

Early morning mist 📷

I’d been out to the coast for sunrise but headed home as it was raining when I got there. On my return I found our village had been shrouded in mist.

You don’t always need to go outside to find good light. My entry for this weeks #sharemondays2025

Another shot from yesterday morning, this was looking across the Lanchester valley to the hill behind. The bank of fog was rolling across the hill and into the valley below.
Three wind turbines are shrouded in a bank of fog with just their blades showing above the cloud. The sky is golden above the fog as the sun rises.

I am aware of Vera, but I don't watch it myself. So I wasn't aware of it's appearance in the titles of the series.

Sunset at the Angel 📷

Popped out with the new camera tonight. I was treated to a colourful sunset.

Blue hour at Roker 📷

This was 45mins before sunrise when the colours were at their most vibrant. The sunrise wasn’t going to amount to much, too much cloud, so I never went down onto the pier.

Not yet, I don’t do wildlife usually but if it can track greyhounds at speed that’ll be a bonus.

It was more for the built in filters, grad and the extra ND128 over my OM1. The 8.5 stops of stabilisation is an improvement as well.
paulgsphotos.bsky.social
Yeah, costs a fortune if you change brand/system. I wouldn’t do it again.

Yesterday I bought a new OM1 mk2, my old one took a knock and the glass on the rear screen broke. It still works and now has a screen protector but might keep it as a spare.
paulgsphotos.bsky.social
That was always my bugbear with my old Nikon. Since switching to OM Systems it’s not been an issue.
