There's literally no reason for Congress to exist if any random freak in the presidential orbit can nullify laws and seize federal funds. All of this is plainly illegal, but Mike Johnson leads the most corrupt Congress in US history (and by a wide margin.)

“John Roberts is not a fair umpire. He has become what I am calling a “Trumpire,” rewriting the law in ways that aid Trump and restrict our rights in alignment with the right-wing political agenda he whole-heartedly embraced as a pre-MAGA Reagan revolutionary.” 🔥 @thelisagraves.bsky.social

my main takeaways from listening to the Supreme Court oral argument today are

-the writing is on the wall for the Voting Rights Act
-the Republican justices are now throwing racist spaghetti at that wall; they'll pass of whatever sticks as the opinion's rationale

The Conservative Justices Have So Many Ideas For How to Kill the Voting Rights Act
The Republican justices already know where they’re going. They just have to figure out which route they’re going to take to get there.

In the past 24 hours:

➡️ Politico revealed hundreds of antisemitic & bigoted messages b/n young Republican leaders;

➡️ A swastika was found in a Republican House office; and

➡️ Trump's Border Patrol posted a reel with an antisemitic slur.

When someone tells you who they are, believe them.

I'm a loser for protesting the actual regime and not blaming everything on Black Women Who tried to prevent this hellscape

I think two things are true:

1. young republicans were always terrible and racist

2. young republicans become openly hitler-loving groypers is in fact a new and alarming development that is worth paying attention to

Very straightforwardly detained by secret police for speech. I honestly don't know what establishment figures are telling themselves any more to avoid cognitive dissonance over this shit.

ICE arrested comedian Robby Roadsteamer for singing a parody of Rod Stewart’s “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy” in a Jeffrey Epstein the Giraffe costume outside their facility.

He sings “If you hate brown people / and you are a Nazi” and ICE thugs grab him and drag him into detention. No violence—just speech.

@muellershewrote.com Here’s one for the ‘Flip it Blue’ segment. As detailed in the episode, Rs actively hoping for low turn-out and voter suppression because if Ds win, and ‘Dems will smell blood in the water’!

Georgia, vote D for Public Service Commission! Lower your power bills!

Today on Volts: hey listen up! The most important election of the year is happening in Georgia next month. Two seats on the (currently all-GOP) Public Service Commission are up & rising electricity prices are on everyone's mind. This is a bellwether for next year's governor & midterm elections!
Pay attention to the most important political race of 2025
With energy affordability set to dominate national politics, Peter Hubbard and Brionté McCorkle explain why a down-ballot Georgia race is ground zero for the fight.

The Supreme Court is entrenching a system where a state’s ruling party can essentially make itself permanent by drawing districts that ensure that party’s majority, both for state legislatures & US House seats.

Democracies do not deprive themselves entirely of competitive elections.

We already have a system where the results of most elections are predetermined because the Supreme Court allows partisan gerrymandering. Eliminating the VRA’s representation requirements allows the full slate of members from each state to be predetermined by a single party.

Now, Dems hold 7 of 33 US house seats (21%) across AL, LA, MS, SC & TN. Dems won 37% of 2024 presidential vote in those states.

Now Supreme Court may allow those states to eliminate >all< Dem seats by undermining the VRA www.nytimes.com/2025/10/15/u...

Our democracy being chipped away, bit by bit.
Current vs a plausible congressional seat map, if the Supreme Court heads in the direction it appears to be by killing elements of the VRA.

I am sounding the alarm that the GOP is engaged in an all out attack voting rights and free and fair elections. Voter suppression, gerrymandering, and troops in blue cities are just some of the ways they are using to try to rig the rules to keep power in 2026 and beyond.

Pay attention and act!

This is a bullshit headline in the New York Times. There’s no “uprising” in Chicago. Rather, Chicagoans are peacefully defending themselves against ICE violence. Use of the term “uprising“ is just what the Trump regime wants to excuse a further fascist crackdown in Chicago.

Unreal stuff from the guy who is unflinchingly loyal to the Insurrectionist-in-Chief - you know, the President who pardoned the January 6 insurrectionists and wants to mandate “Ashli Babbitt: Blood Martyr” as a new national mythos.

I know we're not surprised - but let us not forget to be shocked.

"a memorandum expanding his administration’s authority"

The phrasing you're looking for is that he's suspending parts of the Constitution by decree.

President Trump on Wednesday signed a memorandum expanding his administration’s authority to repurpose unspent federal funds to pay members of the military during the government shutdown, escalating his challenge to the authority of Congress on spending matters.
Trump Signs Memo Expanding His Authority to Spend Federal Money
The president gave Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth wide authority to repurpose funds to pay members of the military without approval from Congress, which has the sole constitutional authority to decide federal spending.

One of my only remaining joys is that every single time Amy Coney Barrett makes a stupid argument, Ketanji Brown Jackson gets a chance to follow up and illustrate her stupidity.
And this will happen again, and again, for the rest of Barrett's life.

They are of course wrong. Understanding how race works in something like, voting, doesn't mean you *must* discriminate against one group or another. But Gorsuch and Brett can't see it that way. Because when *they* "use" race, it's always to discriminate.
