It's a trap.
Because of course there's always things your loved ones do that annoy you. Probably a bunch of little things. Your love for them makes the annoyance worth ignoring, but it doesn't STOP BEING ANNOYING.
But they get upset if I try to get them to stop.
That's annoying.

thought: Logically, religion would serve a lot of practical functions in early society. Such as being a voice of authoirty to compel self-restraint because the group needed to save up resources for the hard season.

I was thinking about how, when in emotional distress, people will say things they honestly don't mean. They're horrible, hurtful, and often based in truth - it's the petty, selfish little animal in us putting intrusive thoughts about what we'd do if we were assholes into our heads and mouths.

The thing that's unsettling about hyraxes, I think, is that there are no familiar animals related to it that we could refer to to interpret its behavior. it doesn't act like any other animal.
