I am introducing the Quick Recognition (QR) Act, which requires ICE and CBP officers to wear uniforms featuring QR codes. When scanned, the code would generate a digital ID displaying the officer’s name, badge number, and law enforcement agency.

ICE should be unmasked both physically and digitally.

at a time when the US is collapsing into a fascist state & roving death squads are murdering people on the street it's important to keep mind that the most important task for a journalist—a truth teller—is to denounce people on the left for being mean to them

this is just a problem with training, clearly

how could we possibly blame federal law enforcement for stealing a child's possession & selling it for their personal enrichment if they never received training that specifically addresses this topic?
Yes, immigration agents not only took Arnoldo's phone, the 10th grader had to use Find My Phone to locate it — in a vending machine for used electronics, close to an ICE detention center.

The point of saying Law Enforcement Baronial Class is that the situation is not that law enforcement need to be "reigned in"; it is that the country created, on purpose, a culture of police impunity and aristocracy, protected and paid for by our taxes that impacts every level of life.

This is bigger than stopping ICE/ CBP or passing a law. It's about how both parties have allowed law enforcement to run the country, determine every policy, spend profligately, and lobby endlessly all on the taxpayer's dime.

when a similar DOJ scandal happened last winter the dems responded to the mass resignations of career prosecutors by cutting their work week short & skipping town to go on a european junket
Breaking: NYT now says *six* federal prosecutors in Minnesota have just resigned over the Justice Department's push to investigate the widow of Renee Good and the department's reluctance to investigate the ICE agent who shot Good, according to people with knowledge of their decision.

We are far past the stage of permissiveness with white-supremacist violence inside DHS. We are witnessing ICE transition into a death squad.

This cannot be reformed. The only question is who will fight to abolish it, and who will accommodate it instead.

[very serious elected dem voice] "more training will fix the handful of bad apples ICE has in their ranks"
January 13, 2026 at 6:02 AM
the problem with this is that "more training" is usually just another way for politicians to say "we're gonna give this agency more money" which is the diametric opposite of neutering DHS as a federal agency
okay since it appears i have to spell this out even more: “training” — a thing that sounds good to sensible moderate voters, who exist and are uncomfortable with sudden change — can, if we make it, be a stalking horse for “moves that effective neuter the agency”

I am still steaming about this.

Average ppl in Minnesota are putting their bodies on the line. Priests are fearlessly staring down guns. ICE is gassing ppl and snatching kids.

And this fucking coward can’t call for using power to stop ICE?
Q: Is it your posture to put restrictions on ICE as a condition for funding DHS?

JEFFRIES: Renee Good should be alive. There was no justification. There are common sense measures that need to put in place so ICE can conduct itself in manner at least consistent w/ every other law enforcement agency
January 13, 2026 at 3:27 AM
it's impossible to stop trump's paramilitary squads from continuing to roam our streets terrorizing, kidnapping, & killing until the democratic party purges itself of the cowards currently leading the party
Democrats are simultaneously beginning to refer to ICE and CBP agents as "poorly trained."

This message comes from leadership. They're trying to use it as a substitute for dismantling ICE and CBP and imprisoning their current employees. Don't fall for it; don't take any Dem seriously who uses it.

Here is one thing I will say about this: people should ignore the roll call votes.

Schumer is going to do whatever he needs to do to get the less vulnerable members to take the arrows for everyone else.

If ICE is funded, it's going to be on every single senator.
this is not a party gearing up to even pare back funding, let alone abolish ICE. I cannot stress enough that it'd be cleaner and easier to just get rid of every last one of them via primary than try to figure out which is worth saving
Democrats officially going all in on the mealy mouthed “ICE needs training” narrative.

No. ABOLISH ICE.

WARNER: It used to take 5 to 6 months to get trained. They've now lowered the training period to 47 days. Why 47 days? Because Donald Trump's the 47th president. Tell me that's a rational approach

Kindly shut the hell up about this merely being a problem with “training.”
Chris Murphy: "The amount of training that's given to an ICE officer has been cut in half by this administration. The number of days of training they get are 47. You know why they get 47 days? As an homage to the vanity of POTUS. No wonder the number of violent incidents are going through the roof."
