"Third Way, in a memo first shared with NBCNews"

Huh, do you ever think why Third Way does that? Like who is the memo really for?
ICE may be shooting people in the face, sending people to concentration camps, and illegally occupying our cities but, apparently, the Democrats think saying, "abolish ICE" is "emotional" and politically "lethal."

I try to avoid buying things online both for lousy goods reasons and driver welfare reasons. But now I'm having the problem of needing a specific item and having no clue where I could buy this in-person.

It's a physical map of NYC, preferably one that shows metro lines and bike infrastructure.

Battle of Algiers is an insane movie as an Italian production.
Imagine there was a bloody war for Puerto Rican independence against the US. Then four years later the UK makes a movie about it where killing US marines or bombing a hotel full of Americans is portrayed as a morally good act.

Watching "Battle of Algiers" 1966.
Now they were evil, but the French colonial police had some pretty nifty hats.

Picked up a book about Dodge Revolutionary Union Movement and the League of Revolutionary Black Workers, two leftist groups active in 60's and 70's Detroit. Flipped open to a page at random and it tells the story of a Black auto worker who shot and killed two foremen.

A month ago she was the wife of a nobody. Now the media is tripping over their dicks to talk about a woman who dresses like a magician's assistant.
Column: Erika Kirk, a mother to two toddlers, continues to take on public-facing leadership duties while promoting traditional ideas about prioritizing marriage and motherhood.

Here’s how her clothes are attempting to walk the same line: https://wapo.st/3N3czMn

Watching "Cuties" the French movie about a Senegalese girl that was falsely accused of being pro-pedophilia.

They were wrong but, it's not a very good movie and it's very French so.....

Watching a Dutch movie where they needed a 50's rock song but couldn't afford a license so it's some Dutch guy doing his best attempt at Jerry Lee Lewis lyrics.

Worst music I've ever heard in my life.

Now I believe that Men in Black is basically a perfect movie.

But, I do have one quibble with the plot on rewatch. So K tells J before he joins up that they'll be erasing his identity and he'll cut ties with every person he knows so he can join MiB.

"Hey, that's an offensive stereotype that we're lazy and build everything really half assed!"
if you're surprised to learn that the Winter Olympics are just a month away, don't worry, you're not alone, the people building all the venues in Italy also appear to be surprised the Olympics are just a month away

Watching The Proposal with Sandra Bullock at the pub. A 2009 movie set in the distant past when being the editor at a publishing house was a powerful commanding person employing hundreds.

So for a laugh I was reading through the supplementary material for the new MAHA Food Triangle. At first I thought this paragraph was odd because it's twice as long as the previous detail-free paragraph about nutrition for pregnant women.

Literally the most common dating advice available, this is The Rules and The Game. One book theory prevails.

Unlike most people I do have one fond memory of a Jan 6th.
Not 2021, but 2023 I saw one of the best shows in my life when my favorite band played at a record store. Only show I've ever been at where the encore wasn't planned and felt earned.

Reading a book for book club that I thought sounded very schmaltzy.

Oh god no, eye dialect for the Black characters!

One thing I like to find in bookstores is self-published memoirs from local elderly folks. Not much literary value but they have unique historical interest. I'm reading one from a woman who was a nurse starting in the 60's.

Kind of weird how the administration is trying to speedrun us to the setting of the worst Call of Duty game, right down to it's dumbass cult of the operator ethos.

Oh noo, I finished a Hugo winning novel and I didn't like it very much.

It has what I'm calling the "TV Problem" where a super futuristic society with no Mass Media. The author painstakingly details the foreign alphabet in a glossary but never mentions what fake popular movie people watch

I'm getting burned out, I need my next sci-fi read to be something other than "Outsider visits a foreign planet that reflects an anxiety about Earth and gets involved in political scheming". I've read three of these in a row.

Also, not to be too clinical about this but, weird contrast between this and the million dollar craters we made in some random farmland in Nigeria last week that accomplished zilch. Wonder what's the reason for that

So does Venezuela have any capacity to retaliate? Or is this going to be another Iran where they announce a strike in advance and everything gets shot down?

Reading an acclaimed sci-fi novel and being a bit annoyed by the world-building.

The way it sets up the world is like reading a novel about a UN Ambassador to the US and it's only 200 pages in they mention China exists.
