Reading an '89 British sci-fi story and can't quite tell if the attitudes towards women expressed by the main character are fanciful 'what if?' misogyny or just accurate to the UK at that time.

Positive news on the weight loss front. I can fully button my favorite punk vest again.

Oh hey @michaelwolffnyc.bsky.social is on here so I can ask him directly.
How'd your dinner with Epstein and Woody Allen in 2015 go? You guys have a lot to talk about? Was Cosby not able to make it?
November 14, 2025 at 11:59 PM
An interesting thing that popped up in the Epstein e-mails was a piece Michael Wolff wrote in 2015 that was never published for some reason. Wolff's tone is nauseatingly obsequious, he portrays Epstein as just too cool for the modern age and all his accusers are gold-digging liars.
November 14, 2025 at 11:12 PM
There was an article a little while ago where someone described the content of a certain podcast as "Every episode is just about a different newspaper columnist they hate"

That's what the Nuzzi discourse today feels like.

*Skimming through the "Give me your most woke opinions" megathread.*
Y'all really need to stop using the word "abolish" in slogans if you mean something the complete opposite of how the word is normally used.

Noam Chomsky and Stephen Pinker say Epstein was an intellectual force with a mind like steel trap and then his e-mails read like the ending of Flowers for Algernon.

"The US is a one party state and that party is the business party. I was discussing this just the other day with Epstein and his pal Larry Summers over a plate of lobsters on his private island"
--Noam Chomsky
In 2023, Chomsky told WSJ about his relationship with Epstein: “First response is that it is none of your business. Or anyone’s. Second is that I knew him and we met occasionally.”

Epstein: you are of course welcome to use apt in new york with your new leisure time, or visit new Mexico again

Amusingly, Gatorade has operated an actual institute with real PhD's for 30 years studying the effects of Gatorade (or isotonic beverages as they call them) on athletes. Gets published in real journals too.
Say what you want politically but let’s not besmirch the science and mathematics teams over at Door Dash

Hey that's weird, the "report" from Doordash and this post on Whitehouse.gov using it as a source came out on the same day???? What are the odds?

Having baked head-on shrimp for my work lunch today. Twist the head off, suck the goo, then eat the rest with the shell on. It's tastier than it sounds, as long as you can get over their buglike appearance.

An incredibly weird choice of dates for Marc. I guess he wanted to include Fitzgerald and Twain but not Hawthorne? But what's the 1930 date cutting off, was Steinbeck too Beta?

His time period for alpha lit also includes Woolf, lol.
*maximum alpha at 1.25x speed* continuously lives on in my head, unfortunately.

A friend gave me the idea to go somewhere overseas for my Christmas break. So I'm looking at places that don't celebrate Christmas near me

Wow, only $1,500 to fly to Casablanca or Cairo! I also considered St. Petersburg but it's weirdly expensive for some reason.

Saw a free production of Two Gentlemen of Verona in the backyard of a coffeeshop. It was fun.

I was a bit confused because after Julia says she'll go in drag as a disguise, the same actress played one of the bandits in drag. So I thought that was supposed to be Julia but nope, just the same actress

E4 of the Chair Company.
I should have noticed this sooner but this show is basically just Breaking Bad but a comedy. His underworld connection slash fixer is even also named Mike.

Evo Psych is like the one fuckup relative that other scientific fields get warned about.

"Now remember to stay rigorous, Astrophysics. You don't want to end up like your cousin Evo Psych"
This is the abstract of "Evolutionary Psychology and the Crisis of Empirical Rigor in Feminist Studies," from the forthcoming November 2025 issue of SEXUALITY & CULTURE.

You will hate this abstract more and more as every word passes through your brain. Trust me: the article is worse.

Read a book of Stephen Graham Jones short stories. In the afterward section he said he wrote a few of them in one sitting which is wild. They were 10x better than any flash fiction I'd read before.

Went to the DIY punk venue after the Critical Mass bike ride. This was slightly staged but it's a pretty cool pic
November 1, 2025 at 5:24 AM
Inordinately pleased with myself for winning the costume contest at the bike ride. Granted, it was a small field, but I won a hefty amount of stuff whose cash value almost equals the money I spent on the ensemble.
