@simoncalder.bsky.social From today's @the-independent.com: "New high-speed rail to link Vienna and Trieste". I got quite excited, by then saw that the "high speed" journey takes 6.5 hours. It's 350 km as the crow flies. Even the @gwr.com train from London to Bristol gets up to 200 km/hr.

Trip.com is one of those sites that does a lot of things really well, but manages to counter that by being really irritating, like sending you alerts and emails about nothing all this time. Also, what's this? They say I'm saving CO2, but I'm going somewhere, so by definition I'm creating CO2?

Here’s what you won’t hear from some commentators on social media: in the year to October, London recorded 10,000 fewer violent crimes leading to injury than it did in the twelve months before I was elected.

'London is world's best city - people claiming it's lawless hate its success'
'The fact that London has again been crowned greatest city in the world disproves everything our critics claim, and they can’t stand it', the London Mayor Sadiq Khan writes

This month I announced that London has met legal limits for nitrogen dioxide for the first time ever.

When I became Mayor, we were told it would take 193 years. We did it 184 years earlier than predicted.

I knew that Von der Leyen's plane had had its GPS jammed, so as an engineer I read this article with interest, as it would be a lot more difficult to jam radar. It turns out that the first part of the article is wrong. The quotes make it clear that GPS was jammed, @rentouljohn.bsky.social
