I'm quite happy with this paper - I think it's a relatively accessible read, and includes our most advanced track simulations yet. Thanks to everyone at Palaeontology for making such a nice paper.

The Newton International Fellowship scheme is open: royalsociety.org/grants/newto...

I'd love to host anyone interested in Palaeo/biomechanics, but I'd be excited for a fellow who wants to apply #nvidia technologies like Isaac lab/Newton, or computer vision techniques to foot and mud movement.

I've found VC Code copilot to be invaluable in writing small scripts and the like for, say, visualizing my DEM output in Blender. Just a super way of speeding up tool-building in scenarios where you can immediately tell if it's worked or not. With an education account, you get access to all kinds of top-end models. But what many people don't realize is that you can also use local models in VS Code.

Oxford had a talented group make a video about the #dinosaur tracks in Oxfordshire this summer.
Birmingham also had a talented group make a video.

I made the video for our group. It is less professional. And has wildly inappropriate music:

Really cool website the BBC have put together on the dinosaur track excavations in Oxfordshire this year
Back in June we were back on the Oxfordshire “dinosaur highway”, excavating more dinosaur tracks with our teams from the Universities of Birmingham, Oxford & Liverpool John Moores. The BBC have a story out today about our work at the site:

The release of the BBC story on this year’s dinosaur track excavation at Dewars Farm means I can finally post these team photos. Thanks so much to quarry manager Mark Stanway & all his team at Smiths Bletchington for being utterly amazing & supporting our work at the site.

Major update to Open Source photogrammetry software Meshroom
Meshroom has for some time been one of my top choices for open-source or free photogrammetry software, offering a really deep amount of customization and tinkering. However, while this blog made a big splash early on reviewing all the different open-source photogrammetry software, I've found they haven't really kept up with Metashape or RealityScan, and I'm just not using them much any more.

[Academic Tech] XREAL Air Pro 2 – Immersive Augmented Reality Glasses
At the recent SEB conference, I traveled sans laptop, working on the assumption I could do everything urgent on my OnePlus Open. I could... but what I found was that some tasks just needed a larger screen (specifically remote-ing into a remote workstation was difficult to make out everything on the small 6-7" unfolded screen). So upon my return, I started looking into AR glasses, for which I'd seen a few reviews on YouTube, in passing.
