"Gas-powered leaf blowers aren’t just annoying; they’re bad for public health." #airpollution #noisepollution

Solutions: electric blowers, acceptance of fallen leaves as free fertilizer, and the occasional rake.
Everyone hates gas-powered leaf blowers. So why is it so hard to ban them?
Cities and states are trying to ditch America's most hated appliance. They're already running into challenges.

I read through BlueSky's #hydrology feed every morning.
I recommend it.
Lots of info on all the aquifers, the evil of data centres, the horrors of nitrogen pollution, slurry lagoons, chalk streams, changing rainfall patterns, Tehran & Ogallala.

U.S. Representative Ted Lieu has called Steve Witkoff an “actual traitor” following revelations of his backchannel dealings with Russian officials during Ukraine peace negotiations.

"Actual traitor. Steve Witkoff is supposed to work for the United States, not Russia," he said.

Steve Witkoff helped Russia derail Ukraine’s access to Tomahawk missiles. He tipped off the Kremlin about Zelensky’s U.S. visit, giving Moscow time to arrange a call that convinced Trump to block the deal. Witkoff actively works against Ukraine’s defense, in coordination with Putin’s regime.

It's also vastly easier and cheaper for media outlets to produce culture war content than policy stuff.

With policy, you have to find actual experts that are available and willing, then pray they're good entertaining communicators.

On culture shit, you start with a talking head and work backwards.
This chart (which applies even more to social media than it did to TV) lives in my head rent free.

Social media enveloping traditional media means everything and everyone is now competing in the entertainment market. Boring stuff like policy that affects millions of lives doesn’t stand a chance.

Yes.
I ask again why any Government is still on X.

Grok has clearly been shaped in its owner’s image and likeness

I would very much like to know what Governments’ and journalists’ red lines are if this sort of thing is not.
