The people gunned down at the ICE facility today were detainees, not agents. Now it's possible that that was simply unintended, but it deserves some clarification before we label this as an "attack on ICE" and forget all about the detainees who were actually killed by the bullets.

I would urge against referring to what is happening to Kilmar as a deportation. When people are deported, they are sent to their home country or "country of origin." What is happening to Kilmar and many others under the Trump administration is... something else entirely.

The System Killed Her. A recent report led to the striking discovery of a woman who died in LASD custody in June amid a legal assault against anti-ICE protestors. Her story raises troubling questions. with picture of Adrienne in background As if it were nothing more than a minor aside, the article’s author then immediately shifts away to other information. A woman was found dead in her holding cell directly near the courtroom she had been in earlier that day, where she pleaded not guilty to assault and battery of a police officer, and all she had was a fairly vague paragraph. If she were an anti-ICE protestor, as the article seemingly implied, then this would be a major escalation, as she would be the first anti-ICE protestor to die in Los Angeles. This would have been the direct fault of the state, in particular ICE and the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department (LASD), which was in charge of her detention at the time. Even if she weren’t, the seeming lack of details and the fact that it took multiple months for this tragic story to be reported on at all seemed perplexing and worth investigation.
