This story was inspired by a conversation with a fossil fuel exec in Paris a few days after the big outage in Spain. He blamed too much renewable energy as the cause.

Was that really it? Turns out: No.

@npr.org takes you through a new report on what happened + impacts of renewable misinformation.
After Spain's blackout, critics blamed renewable energy. It's part of a bigger attack
When millions lost power in Spain and Portugal this spring, some were quick to blame too much solar and wind power. That wasn't the cause, but the misinformation had an impact.

Also, majorities in UK+Spain believed holding social media companies accountable for this kind.of harmful content would be a solution!

💡 After Spain's blackout, critics blamed renewable energy. It's part of a bigger attack

A new report confirms the cause was a voltage surge, not renewables. Yet polling shows 70% of respondents in Spain believed at least one of the false narratives about the outage.

Please enjoy this executive at one of America's biggest gas companies openly admitting that expanding supply leads to increased demand for fossil fuels

He is not wrong: frantic expansion of fossil fuel supply worsens climate change. Tax it, cut subsidies, wind it down

Will Jordan, chief legal and policy officer at EQT, a leading US gas producer, also thought that any glut would be temporary, and said US demand was also rising on the boom in power-hungry artificial intelligence data centres.

top right: a fractured black rectangle where one half is labeled "autism is bad" and the other side is labeled "FACT CHECK: autistic people are productive members of society".

top left:
WRONG
-negating their frame reinforces it
-starts with what it isn't instead of what it is
- your argument is shaped like their argument

bottom right: large image of Kirby, a pink blob inhaling and the "autism is bad" fragment, labeled THEY'RE DOING EUGENICS

bottom left:
RIGHT
- you eat their frame
-starts with what's actually happening
-contains and explains what they're doing

democrats are turning to the phrase “all of the above” to signal openness to supporting more fossil fuel production and consumption

the return of this slogan — which dates back to oil and gas PR from the mid ‘00s — is happening as electricity prices get worse from data center demand
Dems toy with ‘all of the above’ on energy as GOP embraces fossil fuels
The parties seemed to have swapped stances as Democrats see an opening amid rising energy costs.

Anti-trans hate is the NEW, new climate denial.

Great @xtramagazine.com piece building on coverage from @yessfun.com and @emorwee.bsky.social about how the fossil fuel industry is funding the anti-trans movement.

Failed to act on anyway. People noticed Fox wasn't "news" from the jump, but for some reason we (besides media matters et al) decided not to do anything about it, let the internet make it worse, and then act confused about how things are worse than when we didn't give fascists internet megaphones

"Disinformation" is fast becoming a dirty word in the United States -- a label so contentious in a hyperpolarized political climate that some researchers who study the harmful effects of falsehoods are abandoning it altogether.

Climate denial is unpopular, you cant build an audience with it. Bigotry appeals to young white men, fossil fuel industry knows they hold disproportionate power, this is how they roped in young men to radicalize

Can confirm that millions of dollars have been spent solely on trying to get climate scientists on CNN, to basically zero success relative to racist propagandists directly paid by billionaires to mainstream bigotry and disinfo
karlbode.com
it's almost impossible to get on CNN if you're, say, an academic or journalist that criticizes corporate power, radical wealth disparity, billionaire taxation reform, or failures on consumer protection

but you can spread racist propaganda for a decade and they're treat you like a very serious boy
